Giving Dave some major props on his vocals...

We might not always approve of him trying to hit high notes, but his Blues attempted extended notes on this current tour is actually pretty damn impressive for a man in his 60s. Fuck, Hagar currently and a lot of other singers could not last a whole concert with how he is belting stuff out to his best ability. Watch him singing and the guy cares, and he is using all he has like each show is the last and his voice though it might not always reach his desired octave, Diamond Dave is not cracking or loosing the force shouting those things out and he is still putting some vibrato at the end, all in an effort to compensate for his lack of an ability to now scream in a high pitch... and dude is using a low growl scream when he can

I watched Hagar's rebuttal of EVH's comments about Bassplayer. Went to grab a beer, when I got back the next video on autoplay was the Circle doing When It's Love. Hagar's voice is cracking through parts of it, but the Wabozos would never admit it.

You mentioned Dave's "Blues" notes. It hit me... blame the opening band!!

In this case, the Kenny Wayne Shepard band is the perfect choice!! Dave's a competitive guy... every night before he performs he's getting an ear full of throaty, down home blues in his ear while he's preparing for his performance. No pretentious fairy dancing, jazz hands and high note crap... Just solid, down in your gut, Blues!!

When fucking Cool and the Gang were the opening act on the previous tour... Funkadelic Dave was primed every night for primal jungle screams and dancing his ass off like he's James Brown...

The difference is clear... If they ever tour again or need an alternate opening act... I'd highly recommend Buddy Guy would fit the bill.

Dave is obviously picking the pre-show tracklist.

Dave sounds decent. And at 60 that's all I ask for. Some effort. They look like they are having a lot of fun. That goes along way in my book.

That's all they have going for them - that the lump has (had) a decent voice.

Saw Red Rocks and Cleveland show and he is doing a lot more to help himself by standing still more, singing down more, and using his diaphram more. He seems to also be getting stronger and more confident as the tour goes on. He is not all the way back to 2007 but not too far off right now. Overall he also just simply looks way healthier with less pill rolling, no scarfs around the neck and he seems to now have the ability to sweat again which he just did not in 2012. This would be a great tour to a dvd of. These guys are just having fun and I will say the backing vocals are solid even without a cannon mouth there, very strong.

Had a similar thing re: Hagar' rebuttal to EVH about Bassplayer. Clicked a link to I'm guessing it was the Circle - clip was from within the last two years, and Hagar and Anthony were the only ones I could identify in the clip because they were the two whoever filmed it chose to focus on.

They were doing Poundcake, and you could tell right off the bat that they had downtuned at least a half-step from the studio recording, and Hagar's vocals live now in comparison to when he was in Van Halen from 1986-1996 weren't any more impressive or had held up any better than Dave's.

I thought China Town from the Jersey show was his best performance of that song ever.

Drop Dead Legs and Dirty Movies have been killing it pretty much every night. Those songs bring out the swagger in Dave. Cool to see him taking the selfies.

he got the message and he is giving us what we want and what he does best!

I think Dave has been improving every show. To the point where he is quickly catching up to the rest of the band. I know his instrument is different than theirs, and thus shows its age in a more obvious way, but he really seems to be concentrating on getting better and better. It shows, and I appreciate him seeming to be more serious about his role. I have to believe the rest of the band appreciates it too.
