The Bar-B-Que didn't really seem to have much of a point, career-wise, beyond just keeping things moving or keeping things interesting.

It seemed kind of weird that it didn't get released, but then by the time 2001 rolled around Roth didn't have a record company with which to even get it distributed.

The ten years between 1996 and 2006 were just odd in terms of what Dave was doing musically and putting out there. Most of his undertakings during that period came across as sort of one-off, odd turns. Almost like he was just marking time until Van Halen made another reunion attempt. And those years also saw him trying to navigate a new landscape where the scope was much smaller than where his career had been in the 1980s. Sort of like he was trying to find his niche in a new era where what he was doing wasn't particularly relevant to the general public.
