If I remember correctly, besides being a name of a band, and of two members, "Van Halen" was also the name of a company the band had. So when Dave split from the band wouldn't he still have part ownership and control of the brand "Van Halen"? I guess it may depend if they were technically a partnership or incorporated.

Re: The "Van Halen" business entity
Yes, it would be binding, which is most likely why we never heard anything about it. Motley Crue Indoporated themselves during the Dr. Feelgood" time period. A few years later when Nikki Sixx abruptly kicked Vince Neil out of the band (a la Eddie & Sammy), he had no idea it would have legal ramifications. He went "whoops" when he found out Vince Neil still owned his portion of Motley Crue. Vince was paid a 6 figure sum as a goodbye present/settlement.... ouch...Originally posted by mikethemartian

We heard more about the pretty small $250,000 suit he had with the sisiters recently...
$250,000 is small to Dave!Comment

Mike gets a bigger cut of the royalties on the back catalog than
Dave does. Now, does that suck or what ?? All Dave ever sought
was 25%. They even ripped him on that...

I believe Dave had part ownership of the "Van Halen" label as well as his own individual entity. If you look inside the cover of the Remastered 1984 album, credits are given to "Van Halen" and "Diamond Dave Music"
......or I wonder if this is something that emerged after the split, and is a direct result of the lawsuit.Comment

I am pretty sure "Diamond Dave" is referring to the publishing entity he created after the split. So now, his portion is assigned to the same royalty pool as his solo stuff. So he can afford to buy more shiny leather outiftsOriginally posted by Vanstonica
