It may have been better for Dave.

THERE IS NO VAN HALEN WITHOUT DAVID LEE ROTH.

Uh, and what were these new songs by sammy that you have imagined up for us.

And I admit it wasn't just because of dave. I'd imagine at least 2% of the sales were to sammy sheep.

It was the first time Human Being was released on a VH record. so i guess you could consider it a new song, personally i think its one of the best Hagar songs, but MWM was an AWESOME song. i think i would have bought the cd just for that song, but i was saying most people who bought that record dont even listen to the new songs

          Tom,

I have issues with a few of your "observations". The Spice Girls/Beatles think I won't even dignify with a response, but MWM vs. Humans Being ALONE blows the argument out of the water. On this best of, released at the same time, they could have chosen to go with either song. Which did they go with, which ended up being the bigger hit on the better selling best of?

As far as the tour goes to, I can promise you, nay Guarantee you it will sell better. Another basic fact: Pent up demand. Van Hagar had nine years of wait time vs. 19 years to see a group many consider one of the best of all time. Simple math. You feel this way, I feel this way and I am sure we can both find at least 2-3 friends who would go with us. Multiply it out by the millions of fans.

I admitted that MWM was a better song than Human Being, but i still think human being is pretty good.

Im almost certain that a dave tour would sell better, i think i said something to that effect right here....

about roth selling out stadiums, speculation. I wouldnt doubt it though, it has been 20 years from the time he left the band, alot of people never got the chance to see them live, me included, and would go see it, but you cant promise me he would sell out arenas

I said pretty much the exact same thing you did, that it would be alot more successful because people were wating longer for it.

I should have said it would not sell out stadiums, because i believe it would sell out arenas, but no one can tell me Dave is going to put 30,000 people in their seats for a whole tour, but i do think it would be more successful that the current tour

Shania Twain's cd has the 5th higest cd sales EVER! Im just making the point that sales dont mean great music

well said. But Twain does have good music. :D

Roth touring with VH wont sell out stadiums people, its just not that time. If 1996 could happen all over again, yes, world tour sell outs for sure. The buzz was in 96. Ed and Al have let the fans down a few times over now, and the fans wont shell out money to see them "perform". Cant fool the fans- And Ed... As much as you dont want a nostalgic tour... The fans do!!!! Thats where your money is VH, with Dave.

I don't think it would be that hard to get the hype rolling again, get a mic, Dave with a cup and a half of coffee in his system on Howard Stern at 8:30 on a Monday morning, then a full on press conference at noon. Bam, hype done.

I think stadiums would definiately sell out. Who would have thought Prince would be pulling off that feat this year after years of weirdness and self induced obscurity?

The only hard thing is keeping them together. Dave and Eddie go together like gas and match, but they make an incredible spark....they can pull it off again, if they chose to.

They put out the BEST OF VAN HALEN it peaks at no. 1 and stays on the charts for 52 weeks . Goes platinum in less then a year. Is now multi platinum.

Now sam gets his shot at a greatest hits and it peaks at no.3 and by week two drops down to 13. They put 3 new songs out. The public and press barely care. They release "it`s about time" ....and it`s about lame.

sam`s real quick to say his vanhagar is the best and how many records he sold even if he lies about the numbers.

SO sam hows it feel to be overshadowed by Diamond Dave once again eat em and smile you sloppy seconds LOVING Leach .

Edward could of solved this debate long ago by putting out a cd of VAN HALEN DAVE ERA along with DVD US FEST AND A CD OF van hagar ERA aong with dvd of any of their live stuff SOLD THEM seperate AND THEN THE FANS WOULD BE THE JUDGE, but van hagar knows that that DAVE ERA RULES . So van hagar and the boys try to run from their past but are forever over shadowed by Diamond DAVID LEE ROTH. ENOUGH SAID.
