Unfortunately VH found enough success with Clichegar, they didn't feel any urgency to reunite with Dave.
I wonder if Dave has ever regretted releasing that fucking CFTH EP? Because let's face it. The success of that EP was the death of VH as we knew it. The rest of the band (probably Ed and Al the most) was pissed it was so successful. And Dave got a huge fucking head from it and thought he didn't need VH anymore. The songs were all over the radio. The videos were all over MTV. Dave thought he would parlay that into a movie and the successes would automatically continue. Dave forgot about the important thing a lot of these bands seem to forget about. The magic and the chemistry.
However it goes both ways. Eddie and Al's increasing control over the band; drinking habits; Ed's changed musical direction; also swayed Dave to leave.
Also with Ted and Noel gone - arguably two of the biggest supporters for Dave - it was only a matter of time for Dave to leave as well. CVH was a sinking ship with no management to help get it out of trouble.Leave a comment:

The solo thing was never supposed to be a full time gig. Dave knew his lifetime meal ticket was Van Halen. But the chemistry did indeed turn rotten so they needed time away from each other.Leave a comment:

They did. Even though it was pussified Van Hagar. It still sold.
I believe Dave had every intention to reform the band as early as say 1988.Leave a comment:

Dave was delusional to think he no longer needed Van Halen. His early solo career was amusing but it didn’t have legs. Now he’s doing his own version of VH and it sucks. Even die hard Dave fans are going, you suck dude.Leave a comment:

Based on what Ben Affleck just said about not being able to use "Jump" in a movie and even Val stating recently she had to really fight to get approval to use one of the Van Hagar songs, I'm betting Dave is doing these strictly for licensing purposes. Unless he has some side deal with Al on this, I'm betting this won't strengthen their relationship any, if he is doing this. But hey, who knows. Between WVH and WB being pains in the ass, maybe Dave did strike a deal with Al to work it this way.
There can not possibly be any other reason in the world Dave is re-recording these songs. Even Dave knows they aren't an improvement or comparable to the real thing. As background noise in a commercial or movie, yes. But nobody in their right mind is going to throw these versions on over the originals. Not a chance.Leave a comment:
