    Favorite Eddie guitar sound?

EVH's guitar sound has changed very much through the years.

I think his best sound, and probably his playing, the most in the period from 1981 (Fair Warning) until 1984 (...). An aggressive sound, and at the same not ear-piercing sharp. Not too many effects. Loud, direct, and full-mids.

After that, it seems like the sound gets more and more loaded with chorus and effects, wich can be great at times, but becomes a little bit boring.

When Ed started playing every solo with a wah-wah (since 1991), I lost interest. The solo's on Me Wise Magic are great, though.

    What's your favorite Eddie-sound?

Honestly, all of them through Diver Down. It depends on my mood of the day but if I were pinned down I guess I'd have to say Fair Warning.

My favorite Ed sound is of him crying during one of his regular mental breakdowns.

MY FAVORITE EVH guitar sound was on EVERY recording from 1978-84. It's the one with DAVID LEE ROTH singing OVER it!!!! He started using TOO many effects on 5150, and it clouds his tone to this day.

The original Frankie through the old Marshall will always be the best one for me.

Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

All of the Dave albums. They differ some what from one album to the next but all of those guitar tracks are pure attitude and power. " Fair Warnig is down right scarey. It sounds like he's so loud the preamps on the console are clipping. Probably were." Enter the peavy. That anp is so saggy and full of zip it killed his dynamics. Ed sounds fine no matter what he uses but the plexi really showed off what made him special. He would play more like his old self if only he'd break it out. That amp leaves no wear to hide half hearted playing. It makes a man out of ya.

P.S. the first album was tracked all most excluseively with a Les Paul and a Ibanez destroyer. The one on the cover of WACF before he butchered it.

I'd beg to differ with that one. It was tracked with the Frankie, and the Ibanez for non trem songs (see Eddie interviews cicca that period)
