Vai is great, hell he played with Zappa as a 19 y.o. Great with DLR / Whitesnake. His solo work, whilst brilliant is for the die hard fans only. Saw him recently in Aust. and although very hard to watch the dude shred for 90 mins, he is still fckn very very good.

Vai and Coverdale was a terrible combination. There ain't no blues in Vai's playing. Coverdale is a very blusey singer.

Vai and Coverdale are about as good of a combination as Dave and Yngwie would be.

How about Judgement Day and Kitten's Got Claws w/ Coverdale? Vai seemed to get around alright on those songs..

anyhoo, this is a DLR site, not a Vai one... so rock on, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

            Cheers!

I thought that Vai's 'Passion And Warfare' was/is one of the all time best instrumental albums ever released.

But that aside, doesn't this thread belong in another room?

I don't dislike him, he is very talanted and has worked for some great artists. His contribution to EEAS can not be overlooked.

Vai is an excellent guitarist, I just never really cared for his guitar sound. I always thought his teacher Satrianni had a better guitar tone.

what kind of fool would call himself a DLR fan a dis VAI???? I dont get it. ..................................... Hes the shit! theres a cool place on his site where you can read his journal from those early shows from the Eat Em and Smile tour. He and Billy Sheehan perform Shyboy live on Steve Vai's live at the astoria in london dvd.

I think Vai is a great guitarist but what made me angry is he just used Dave just like Billy Sheehan did. They knew Dave was coming off of one of the biggest rock n roll bands. I also think that they were fools to leave Dave.

Vai's a good enough guitarist, but to me his playing lacks any feeling or emotion
