yeah i think diver's numbers are pretty close to what it actually had done pushing it past gold because of the double album rule which i still think is retarded
I know the Billboard has the rankings. But where do you get the sale numbers? I know soundscan is the company that does the counting but do they publish the numbers on the website or do you have to be a subscriber of their service to get the numbers?
Basically, if WB wants to put the papers through to RIAA, BOBW has already sold enough to get the gold certification. That basically means that every record VH has released has gone at least gold. I think this would be 14 straight gold records.
I think anything Van Halen ever does from now til the end of time will go to a minimum of gold, just out of sheer name power. There are the Edward fans that'll buy anything with his playing on it, the few Hagar fans that want his shit, the fans of the NAME Van Halen itself...you add that up across the U.S. and you = gold. Of course, sales of "gold" do not = "good", as the reviews, tour revenue and general interest level in BOBW and the so-called reunion is proving resoundingly.
Van Halen, like Metallica, have morphed themselves into becoming the McDonalds of rock and roll. The NAME is actually more important now than the product. The NAME sells the records and tickets, NOT the actual product.
