    Columbia & Charlotte Cancelled

Scheduling Conflict is the "offical" reason. Bad ticket sales for 3 shows within a hour drive of each other I say. Wow

I've been expecting it, honestly, but still it comes as a bit of a shock.

The fact they can't move tickets in backyard LA speaks volumes...

7 (approx) sold out shows out of 35 (approx) and 2 cancellations.

And those are facts no twists. A stat is a stat!

The numbers don't lie, unless you graze in a field and baaaaa all day. Writing is on the wall here (hopefully). Either way, it's not going to be considered a success at the end of the day. If it was, Hagar would be spouting off about how proud he is to be back in, how anxious he was to do another new album, and the Wabowieners would be getting their walking papers from Irving Azoff...and, apparently, none of those things are happening, so...

Just doin' the math and smiling away

Well, technically I don't think they have SOLD out 7 shows... 7 full arenas including comps is an entirely different ball of wax at the end of the day to a promoter looking at the bottom line...

Also, there was technically a 3rd cancelled show as they moved into Greensboro a full week ahead of time to "practice"... of course, we won't count that one as it would be too much like a sheep spinning yarn.

                      Here's the article....

(Columbia) Aug. 19, 2004 - Van Halen has canceled two Carolinas concerts this fall, including one scheduled for Columbia.

The band cited a scheduleing conflict in a release Thursday announcing the cancellation of a show on Sunday, September 12th, at the Colonial Center in Columbia and on September 14th at the Charlotte Coliseum in Charlotte.

The Van Halen concert scheduled for September 15th at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville is still on.

Tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase. They were available through Ticketmaster Charge-By-Phone at 803-783-2222 and at all Ticketmaster outlets and via AOL.

The line-up currently touring includes guitarist Eddie Van Halen, drummer Alex Van Halen, bassist Michael Anthony and vocalist Sammy Hagar.

Hagar fronted Van Halen from 1985 to 1996 on the bands albums 5150, OU812, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge and Balance.

Obviously, no details were given by the band pertaining to exactly WHAT the "conflict" is...

The conflict is CCC refusing to lose their ass on those two dates.

Don't be surprised to see more "quietly" shelved as they hit the home stretch and Clear Channel seeks to minimize the huge losses as much as possible.

Wait... there really has been three cancelled as the Baltimore Orioles backed out of the Oriole Park gig upon seeing how the tour was tanking. Ed is now suing...

If they ever want to have an arena tour again...

                            1) Get Dave back
                            2) Co-headline with (i.e. open up for) Aerosmith, Ozzy, Kiss, etc.

I'm curious how this is playing over at the links...

Or, has every mention of it been promptly deleted?
