Van Halen - Best Of Both Worlds
Almost eight years ago, Best Of Vol 1. still stood its ground in introducing Van Halen to a younger generation. Some even believed that original singer David Lee Roth would re-join the band, judging by the "baits" recorded for the compilation. But the man who stepped up to the mic was Extreme-vocalist Gary Cherone, with whom one forgettable album was made in the studio.
And now, after six years, a TV-campaigned robbery.
The glaring truth is that one can find the exact same songs on BOBW that were on the earlier compilation - except the two bonus tracks on BOV1. What makes this new compilation a "must get" for fans are the three new insignificant songs, which are made special by the work of Sammy Hagar, the band's sequentially second frontman.
The VH-completist will now own certain classics in three different releases upon agreeing to become a victim to this scam.
On top of that, the consumer is insulted by including "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love", "Panama" and "Jump" as both studio- and the numbing live-versions, the latter being also found in their 1993 double live album!
If they would've taken off all the songs that can be found on the earlier compilation and renamed it "Best Of Vol. 2", the "Best Of Both Worlds" (released as a 2-cd package) could still be swallowed.
Now it just stinks of obscene money grabbing.
