    Dave - Hamptons Diary

August 27, 2004 -- AN ESTABLISHED Hamptons magazine is having a little fun with the new magazines that have sprouted up on the East End lately.
Hamptons Cottages and Gardens magazine is including an insert of "Hamptonseen," a hysterical, 24-page send-up of its competitors, in its September issue, which hits stands Sept. 1.

Declaring itself to be "The Magazine That Celebrates Self Importance," Hamptonseen has dedicated its cover space to include such stories as "Labor Day Inquiry: They're Called 'The Help' So Why Don't They?"; "Botox is the New Black"; and "20 People Who Do Nothing."

The magazine also features "The Roster," a spoof of Hamptons magazine's "The List," which folks regularly scan on the South Fork in search of who's hot that week.

One person who makes Hamptonseen's "Roster" is ad-man Donny Deutsch. His name shows up on the list — and then appears again and again.

Explaining how "Hamptonseen" differs from the several new titles glutting retail storefronts in the area, editor Lizz Winstead says, "For one thing, we don't have photographs by Patrick McMullan, which the others think makes them cool. We're not just about celebrities — we're about anyone who happens to think they're important. We offer pictorial coverage of parties so exclusive, no one else has even heard of them.

"Our gossip columns are not hashed-over, rewritten Page Six items, either."

Winstead, co-creator of "The Daily Show," offers the following nuggets of Hamptonseen gossip as proof: "Lizzie Grubman is taking flying lessons"; "A plumber called somebody back"; and (the most shocking) "Two girls from a summer share in Westhampton are still friends."

Speaking of mags, Jason Binn's glossy, Hamptons, is running a piece today about the night that singer David Lee Roth and Leslie Barbara hit it off at Nick & Toni's — while Barbara's husband, attorney Dominic Barbara, was away from the table, allegedly flirting with many other women in the restaurant.

The layout of the spread — which was floating around yesterday — features shots of David and Leslie together in heart-shaped cutouts and is accompanied by testimonials from dinner guests who witnessed the connection the two shared with one another.

Seated at the table that night were such notables as Howard Stern, with girlfriend Beth Ostrosky, Nobu owner Richie Notar, Equinox founder Danny Ericco and former DreamWorks music exec Ross Zapin.

Binn — who joined the guests in celebrating Ostrosky making the cover of one of his summer issues — wouldn't comment about the upcoming spread. Nevertheless, expect some more fun-filled antics at a dinner that Binn and his wife, Haley, are hosting tonight at Savanna's in Southampton.

Diary hears that Lance Bass, Jamie Lynn DiScala, husband, A.J. and socialites Marcy and Michael Warren are expected to attend.

Steven Spielberg is wrapping up his summer stay on the South Fork.

Spielberg was seen having one of his last Hamptons dinners with family and friends, including Christy Turlington and Ed Burns, on Wednesday night at Sen, the popular Asian eatery in Sag Harbor.

As a parting gift, Turlington graciously picked up the check, which was several hundred dollars.

Dave was getting his game on. Didn't matter that her husband was there.

He's gonna fuck your wife, pal.
