Actually saw them the opening show. We were driving down the strip and on the Ballys marquee the guys were putting the letters up. It said "David Lee R". As we passed I had my girlfriend look back hoping the opposite side of the sign was complete. It was, and it was for that very night. We whipped the U-turn & got 2 tix to the very first show.
It was cool...but very different. Only played 2 VH songs. Jump & Ice Cream Man. But honestly, the very most rockin' song he did all night was "Free Ride". Best version ever. But the whole show was very surreal. We sat very close & Dave did a lot of shtick (a lot). Funny stuff. Definitely a different experience than what I had thought going in. Was very cool, but I'm glad he only did that one run of it.
Oh...and the 2 girls he kept onstage in bikinis the whole show were exceptional. WOWZA! Brunettes...my fav.
Old man Edgar Winters was cool as usual.“Great losses often bring only a numb shock. To truly plunge a victim into misery, you must overwhelm him with many small sufferings.”Comment

By "Van Halen" I assume you mean strictly the classic Dave, Eddie, Al, and Michael lineup or are you including any other version of the band with other members (Sammy, Gary, Wolfgang, etc.)?Comment

I've seen them only as many time's as i've watched the bootleg videos I have... Hoping to see them when they finally get of their gearwhore asses and tourReading Crazy From the Heat in four hours flat, in a cramped RV, on the return trip of a 3,000+ mile family outing to New Jersey is an enlightening experience you'll never forget.Comment

What I have always thought was cool, was that I saw the 5150 tour in May, then Dave swung through town in August. I thought the Dave Show kicked the 5150 tour in the nuts.Comment

I only saw VH on the last tour because i was too young to drive during the 1984 tour and i didn't know anyone older that was going.
However, saw Dave:
EAS tour - 3 times
Skyscraper
YFLM
Roth/Hagar tour
Diamond Dave tour - 2 timesRIDE TO LIVE, LIVE TO RIDE

I did not see the last tour, as a) they did not play Gnashville, DESPITE playing numerous other cities TWICE (motherfuckers!), and b) even though they played Atlanta twice, each time it was in the midst of the week, I could not get off from work, and I did not have the cash to do a road trip to see them anyway.
I surely hope they play Gnashville on their next tour.Comment
