Imagine we are talking the nickel tour through the Classic House of Halen. How would you describe the major components. Mine would go like this:
Music by EVH
Lyrics by Roth
Melodies by Roth
Stage Design by Roth
Videos by Roth
Album Design by Roth
Merchandising by Roth
PR by Roth
thats just off the top of my head...
Although to be fair, according to Roth AVH "designed" the cover of Fair Warning.
I would say I'd split it 50/50 between Ed and Roth in terms of music and melodies, with Ed writing the lion's share of the music and Roth, along with Templeman, being involved on editing and arranging the music.
Stage design, videos, album design, merchandising and PR/media relations go to Dave, as well as lyrics.
Would have to give th other two (Mike and Al) some props in terms of molding the songs in rehearsal/album pre-production.
Put it this way, no way Dave deserves less than the other three in terms of royalties, and Dave insisting on a four-way equal split isn't just the right thing to do, but downright generous considering Mike and Al's roles.
