Dave was one of the best frontmen of all time.
He was never much of a singer, but a great frontman. With the attitude and the jumping and all. And also those kinda weird ballet-like moves that I couldn't quite figure out.

Shame he had to cancel the The Cajun House-gig. Is it true that he beat himself up with some martial arts equipment?

David's never made any claim to have the greatest voice ever. I do think his voice is good, though...I've certainly heard a fuck of a lot worse trying to do his material...Sammy Hagar comes to mind...

I believe there was an accident with a kendo stick or a samurai sword a while back, just a slight case of missed timing...happens to all martial artists, sooner or later, nobody's perfect...

I suggest you go back and listen to the 6-pack. The examples of DAVID LEE ROTH being an EXCEPTIONAL singer are all over the original VAN HALEN recordings. DAVE's voice AND lyrics are as much responsible for the success of VAN HALEN as EVH's guitar playing.

When it comes to HIS material, though, it's untouchable by anyone else, and that's what puts him in a league of his own as a vocalist.

Moreover, even Hagar almost admitted that...I remember reading an interview with him back in 1991 where he said he felt "intimidated" by doing Roth songs like "Jump" and "Panama" because, if I remember the wording correctly, they were "David's songs...you hear them and you think of David", or something really close to that.

Fucker should have taken his own advice and kept his clap-trap shut.

About the voice though, I can't really hear it. I always thought he was a pretty weak singer, and that constant falsetto-screaming didn't exactly help.
