Just the fact that Mike went on tour with the Red Cheesehead shows that even he got fed up with the sisters and there bullshit after a while.... Mike has enough friends in the industry and a reputation as a nice guy he could be playing steady with Spammy, Neal Schon etc. And he is a decent straight forward basssist and backup vocalist.

1st off, Mike is a damn good bass player. Just check out his licks on 1984 (especially Girl Gone Bad), Fair Warning, and F.U.C.K.. and you'll see. Watch the live video for "So This Is Love?"....he be grooving. I don't know where he stands with Dave, but if Ed and Al reconvened with Roth, Mikey's fat ass would be there in a second. What is the alternative......tour w/ Spammy in Cabo with his bar band?

That's the money shot with regards to Bassplayer. He's been allowed to hang on because he knows he brings nothing to the table and creates very little waves for the sisters.

Anyone that wants to defend him take note...What song did he write for any Van Halen/Hagar album? Besides his mimicking background vocals and his open E string ability on the bass he's been allowed to cash a paycheck on the VH payroll.

He knows he blows too, otherwise there would've been a host of bands wanting to hook up with besides Spammy.

In terms of authenticity, Mike would have to be there along with the sisters and Dave to call it a proper CVH reunion, but it wouldn't bother me if he wasn't.
He does get ragged on for his lack of technical prowess on bass. Sure, the guy is capable of more than what he did on the intro to Running With The Devil, but "killer chops"? If so, he's kept them hidden well.
His voice was placed at the proper volume in the mixing of the CVH catalog, but live he was turned up way too loud and his nuts-in-a-vise warble could be every bit as annoying as Hagar's, even back in the day.
Do agree that Mike palling around with Hagar post-1999 probably helped facilitate Hagar's reentry back into Halen in 2004, but despite what Mike said in 1996, it's really up to the sisters who fronts the band. If they had decided to stick with Roth instead of go with Cherone in 1996, Anthony would have went along too, grinning all the way. And if the sisters decided to go with Dave in 2004, Anthony would have jumped at the opportunity to come along then, too. To think he was gonna say no to that is just as erroneous as believing his preferences for who sings in Van Halen have anything beyond an at best slight influence to who actually gets the job.

i think mikey is horrible. on the albums, his back up vocals sounded all right....but the live footage ive seen of CVH n mikey singing back up....holy fucken annoying!!!!! He fucken kills the songs man....hes a CHEEZER like SAMMY...shitty bass player, but the way he played worked for CVH....and hes just in it still cuz he needs the money....hes the guy in the band that everyone makes fun of....watching that Largo show of Diver Down in 82, when he has his solo....wow!!! What a loser!!! Gaylord at best...I felt embarrassed for him watching that! When he puts the cowboy hat on??/ Camon man...gimme a break....the rest of the guys were probably shitting their pants laughing while fatso was doing his solo....."look...hes actually doing it...he put on the HAT!!!....yeeeeah mikey u sack o' shit....whaata guy!!!...muhuhwuwhuahwshahaha"....if he had any sense, he'd want Dave back...but clearly from that interview hes just as stupid as the sisters.....

him and alex were the overshadowed ones in the band, dave and eddie where the ones who got the attention. i got money that says if there were anyone else playing bass in that band with half an ego, we don't have half the great music we got from cvh.
