I believe Eddie and Alex never wanted to work with Sammy again, but were 'forced' into this Van Hagar reunion when it became obvious Dave would not accept their terms.
There's hardly any encouragement for Van Hagar to go on after the abysmal attendances, pathetic BOBW sales and the lack of fan/media interest in this line-up.
The reason they won't publicly commit to any future plans is because until Dave says no again they don't have any plans!
Dave is in a stronger position now, but the self-destructive brothers could still fuck everything up.

If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times...nothing is a certainty with these guys. Maybe Ed realized that a Van Hagar reunion wasn't going to bring the masses, like they thought it would. At this point though, I'm not even sure that a reunion with Dave would fare any better....just too much shit has happened.Comment

Who cares. Eddie is a has been. There really isn't anything left for Dave to come back to. Dave originally left Van Halen at their high water mark. When Dave came back to do "Can't Get This Stuff No More" and "Me Wise Magic", he left his mark on Van Halen because those were the best songs VH has recorded in years.
Dave has his legacy, people remember him. Van Halen has become a joke and nobody but die hard sheep fans care.

Hot off the rumor mill - BW&BK sources have learned that since VAN HALEN guitarist Eddie Van Halen fired all of vocalist SAMMY HAGAR’s road crew, tension in the band has been at an all time high.
In fact, it's been described that Eddie and Sammy “Hate” each other and apparently Sammy has already threatened to bail on the tour numerous times. Sammy is also planning a quick “eight shows in 10 days” jaunt opening for TED NUGENT just before Christmas this year. Hagar is also in the 'talking' stages of doing a full blown spring/summer tour as Nugent's opening act.
Our source was told that “this is it for VH with Sammy. There will be no other tours or new album.”Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?
