At the time, EDDIE was going through his post-rehab metaphysical phase trying to grasp at some new self-awareness via therapy and new age bullshit...I think DAVE is sort of commenting on this and ED's seeking to fix himself externally.
I don't know, but that reminds me of the scene form APOCALYPSE NOW where the two black dudes are ineffectually firing the machine gun at "Charlie in the wire."
Interesting line...I wonder if that has something to do with DAVE's declining fame or of some revelation...He's able to see know what he never once could while surrounded by an entourage and insulated into a world surreality.
