I can't decide which album is the best, but one thing I know for sure - "1984" is the worst. Yesterday I listened to the entire sixpack and when it came to "1984" I was struck that it was so different from the previous five. It sounds like an Eddie's solo album with Dave's vocals thrown in to make it more acceptable for the audience. The first five records were pure R'n'R with perfect balance between instruments and vocals, while "1984" is full of tiring intros, bridges and heavy structures. It's Eddie unleashed in his 5150 studio.
How could I be so blind to like this record? My fault. I've never listened to Van Hagar, so I can't compare "1984" to what Ed was doing later. But I can see Dave's arguments for leaving the band - he probably didn't want to be just a singer in Eddie's solo project.
Well, at least I'm honest. And while were on the subject of truth....
Dave era Van Halen has been my fave band for 23 years now, and Eddie Van Halen is my fave guitarist. The only 2 times I've felt truly sick was when Dave left the band in '85 and when they hired Gary in '96.
If things were ineveitalby not going to work with Dave, it's true I wanted them to get Sammy back rather than another GRAVE mistake like Gary. But, keep in mind, Dave is and will always be the quintessential front man.
23 years ago was 1986... you were sick a year after the fact?
Admit it... you missed the boat and you've been rowing to catch up ever since.
diver down= again sounds great loud, crank that mother fucker
van halen = (atbl), (on fire), (atomic punk), are all kick ass songs
vh2 = only because of the song (women in love)
fair warning = (hear about it later) was freekin awsome
1984 = im sorry but this is my least favorite album by far, they definately went a different direction with it, (hear about it later) on fair warning trumped this whole album by itself if you ask me, still wouldnt trade it for any other bands album. maybe AC/DC's whole bon scott collection.
