I agree Bomber that Ablett is the best player ever. He could play anywhere or do anything, unlike Carey, who is often cited as the best. Carey, along with Lockett, marked and kicked straight better than anyone but could do little else in terms of skill or versatility.

Did you see that Geelong v Essendon game from 1989 at the MCG? Ablett's performance that day is the greatest I've ever seen.

Are you talking about the 93 game when he kicked 14 against us and salmon kicked 10?We won by 5 goals and were left scratching our heads at this guys miraculous performance.
89 in the grand final he kicked 9 against the Hawks and was the first player ever awarded The Norm Smith medal for Best On Ground in a losing side.That GF was a classic,I'll have to get that game on dvd sometime to see if it's everything I remember about it being so great a game.
Carey,Lockett,Dunstall,Kernahan,Williams,Dunstall, Buckley,Voss and Hird are the elite but there is only one God.

I'm sure it was in the 80s and it was definately a minor round game. There was about 80,000-90,000 at the MCG and I reckon Ablett was playing half-forward as I can still recall him constantly taking possession across half-forward and centre and kicking goals on the run.

This will sound lame, but I came off a mountainbike..
Was going downhill at over 60km/h, bike locked up,
I went over the handlebars, hit the road headfirst
(had a helmut on thankgod) but I must have braced
myself with my left arm, I tumbled a lot too....

I remember feeling like everything on the left side
of my body broke. (Shoulder, arm, hip).. When
I looked at my arm I thought I had dislocated my elbow,
as it wasnt where it normally was, (I later found out my
arm was snapped clean at the elbow).. Also there was
a bone sticking out my upper arm muscle.. Looked
like a stick actually.. I wrenched my arm around and
managed to make the bone retract back into the arm..

I dunno how I managed 8 breaks ?? I guess in the tumbling..
My arm looks pretty cool now when you xray it..
I feel like the terminator !! Four plates and 24 screws in it..

I went into shock, its the wierdest thing.. You know you
are fucked up, you know you are in mega pain, but you
somehow manage it.. Natures way of helping I guess,
it gave me a good insight into if you were ever seriously
injured in a car accident how shock could be your friend.

As for Gary Ablett, totally agree with you guys, he was the
greatest Ive seen, with Kouta and Hird next.. (Kouta before
fucking his knee 3 times) Although I gotta say he seems
to be contributing now ! Hird is still playing great..

We struggled over there with the damp grass last time on a fine night against Port.The grass was damp as fuck and it was a fine night.
I think we have almost become too used to the Dome's conditions with a roof over our heads.Although we play alright at the MCG so who knows?
Good luck anyhow mate,should be a belta,I'm so looking forward to this game tomorrow night.I've already stocked up the fridge with a slab of Carlton Draught.

Halen High, its no big deal, in fact the arm (apart from the surgical scar) looks very normal again now. I can do weights, no probs..
I can play guitar like I used to. Some weather conditions hurt.
But not enough to make me want to get the second operation to
have all the hardware removed. You can chose to leave it there
for life...

BOMBER, Im gonna pick the BLUES too.. They are way overdue
for some luck.

The worst I've ever done is a torn ACL in my left knee playing soccer, and a fractured elbow while .......... wait for it .......... ICE SKATING!
