Damn, well you missed some "MARVELLOUS" batting by Gilly and his hilarious expression antics at the umpire, when the umpire showed him his shiny bald head.

So some dirty tricks by the Blues in the next upcoming head-to-head match against the Hawks already in the works, eh? I rarely see any biff happening in the AFL. Usually it's just the norm - shoulder barging and the like. Are penalties for brawling that tough in the game?

Well, in the AFL now, if a player has taken the mark,
then its illegal to tackle him or attack him once the
mark has been taken.. If you can imagine dudes
being in the air, having taken the mark, then the
opposition giving them a full on shoulder or elbow
whilst they are coming down... Its considered "late"
Hip and Shoulder hits are still allowed, but not if
the player has already taken a clear mark...

Dont worry mate, a good hip and shoulder by a player
running at full throttle is like being king hit...
I used to play AFL... So without directly punching dudes
in the face, players still have this little grey zone where
they may or may not get away with it..

I remember taking a simple chest mark and getting
the big hip,shoulder and elbow from two opposition dudes
from different directions...

It fuckin hurt, it fuckin winded me, and nearly knocked me the
fuck out.. Yet the umpire didnt report the dudes..
(This is going back some years)
But this element is still there.... The secret is in how you
disguise it....

If you come in late, it will generally get players pissed off..
Then the melees start, dont worry if it wasnt like a seasons
penalty for smacking a dude in the face, you would see it
more in the AFL... Strict rules against that ..

Back in the old days when there was like one camera filming
the game there was a lot of hits behind play... The multiple
camera videos have killed that off to some degree..

an umpire.. He went for an entire season... Maybe more !!

Fair dinkum. Yeah, always thought it looked kinda pussy-like for these typical shoulder/chest barging in the game. When I saw Hawks play Saints at MCG a few backs they were actually doing before the game, so I always thought it was some sort of warm-up technique. Yeah, it never looked that lethal but thinking about it more now it certainly sounds brutal stuff. Good to see that there's genuine biff lingering in the AFL.

Nah, I don't know him mate. I'm fairly ignorant when it comes to knowledge of AFL, but least I'm learning here. I started follow the game only within the last few years.

Was it a good head-butt? Was this Phil Carmen bloke a real bruiser? Or was the umpire just a genuine wanker who deserved it?

in my opinion, but the point is, he got 20 weeks....

If you king hit someone in AFL now, its at least a season..
So they have to resort to elbows, shoulders, hips etc that
fall within the "laws of tackling" to dish it out...

How many games do they play a year?

I've only seen 2 games on the tube in my life.

HYS, our football season (both Rugby and AFL)
starts around mid March and ends in September.

Yeah, I've heard about things like that. Reminds me when Steve Roach got busted for patting referee, Eddie Ward, on the head when he sent him off the field in a match, I'm pretty sure he got a hefty suspension just for that.

Billy Birmingham used to work with Austen Tayshus. I think he co-write Australiana with him.

BTW, at this very moment, I'm downloading the 12th Man's BONED album onto a new iPod. I'm leaving for overseas next week and need some good ole Aussie material to ensure I don't get homesick.

Just been away for past month, come back and see this thread hasn't been utilised. Has the footy season been that boring????????????

Well, I'm off to see the Swans play the West Coke Eagles tomorrow night, whom I've heard been playing shithouse so far (i.e. Eagles).

And in NRL, also heard Wayne Bennett landed himself with Dragons, well at least till next season - which I think is a bold move by the St George Club.
