    Ozzy's new Box set

Ozzy hasnt done anything worthwhile in about a decade(Down to Earth is the first Ozzy album I didnt play out.....let's be honest, it FUCKING SUCKED!), and I absolutely DESPISE his public persona now. However, since I consider myself an Ozzy die-hard I picked up this 4 disc set today for 28 bucks. It comes with a buy one get one free Ozzfest 2005 ticket offer, which of course they're doing to pump up attendance. The booklet is decent, with lots of photos(though I've seen 90 percent of them) a message from Ozzy, lyrics, song by song recollections etc. The set is geared more for the hardcore Ozzy fan which I think is cool........most of the stuff is live, demo's etc. The first disc covers the 81-83 period(Blizzard, Diary, and Bark...) and about half of it is live versions of songs from that period(albeit previously released ones). We all know about the controversy surrounding Bob Daisley, Lee Kerslake, and their parts being re-done on the first 2 albums. I have purposely NEVER listened to these new bastardized versions......and let me say I STILL wish I wouldnt have. The studio versions of "Crazy Train" and "Mr. Crowley" sound all mucked up IMO........the drums and bass drown out Randy's guitar (AAAHHHH!!!) and Ozzy's vocals. Dont get me started on the studio cuts from Diary.........Robert Trujillo's overplaying butchers these classics, period. The disc features one cool B-side(SPiders).........but where's the rest of the b-sides and/or unreleased material?!

The second disc (the best of the set)covers the rest of Ozzy's solo career, and is mostly made up of demo's and, again, previously released live stuff("Thank God For the Bomb" live I'd never heard before though). I'm sure most of the demo's can be found on the net, but it's cool having them on this disc.

Disc 3 is a pointless piece of shit. It features Ozzy's collabarations with other artists......90 percent of it is pure crap(Psycho Man, NIB, and a couple other tracks are great.....but again previously released.) Did he really need to stick on his duet with Miss Piggy?

Disc 4 is a brand new album of Ozzy covers.........it's hit and miss here......some are really good.........a couple are decent........and the rest Ozzy should NEVER have attempted. Killer cuts here-21st Century Schizoid Man and Mississippi Queen. "Changes" with Kelly is included on this disc..........I'd rather stick a steaming poker in to each eye while singing "Don't stop believin', than EVER listen to this again) My major beef with this album is this.........if Ozzy was gonna include demo's and ton's of live stuff instead of the studio versions, where the fuck are all the b-sides and unreleased material??!!!!! Disc 3 should have filled with that shit, instead we literally get shit like "Stayin' Alive" featuring Dweezil Zappa. If you're an Ozzy die-hard, pick this up for the bargain price like I did. I applaud the attempt to make the Box set with the Ozzy fanbase in mind, and not just pad it with studio hits etc......but it wasnt executed properly. If you're not a big Ozzy fan stay away from this set.

Ozzy's fans are so much more well-off than CVH/Dave ones... I dig a lot the four albums I have, Bark at the Moon, Diary of a madman, Speak of the devil and the live stuff with Randy Rhoads.

But I'm happy with them, and I won't buy this box-set, though it sounds great as you put it in your lines.

      Well, I've got to confess I sometimes can't play anybody's but Ozzy's (or Sabbath's) music. :D

I'm a huge SABBATH fan. They are one of my favorite bands ever. But as for solo OZZY...I have BLIZZARD and DIARY and one of his newer ones OZZMOSIS. And I really don't need any more. The first two albums are good...the rest are dull. And nothing he did even comes close to the power of the Iommi/Osbourne combination.

Which one is NO REST FOR THE WICKED? Is that the one with the really shitty songs and the synths and the riffs that could be pulled out of one's ass and the lyrics that sound like RATT outtakes?:D

Let's definitely not overlook "No Rest for the Wicked"; right next to "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" (and, of course, "OU812") it was probably the best album from 1988 I've heard thus far in so far as rock and metal releases that year were concerned.

A LOT of outstanding shit there..."Miracle Man", "Breaking All the Rules", "Tattooed Dancer"...definitely Ozzy's last great solo moment, everything else thereafter was crap for sure.

No Rest is one of Ozzy's best.

                        I love that album.

Blizzard and Diary are just classics. 'nuff said there.

I actually like Bark at the Moon. I know some don't, but there's a lot of good stuuf on it. (ie: "Now You see It, Now You Don't", "You're No Different")

I thought Down to Earth sucked monkey balls as well.

I don't think I'll get this box set. I absolutely hate what they did to the original tracks for Blizzard and Diary and since I have the original recordings, I see no purpose in me getting this.

The Ozzy Boxset is on sale in Canada for super cheap, even cheaper than in the U.S. for some strange reason.

$39.99 Cdn with free shipping from FutureShop.ca
$35.99 Cdn with free shipping from Amazon.ca

Also I believe the first pressings of the Boxset not only come with a 'Buy One Get One Free' Ozzfest ticket, but also a BONUS DVD.

Me, I am on the fence about buying this. I've got Ozzy's solo stuff on tape, CD and vinyl.

So yeah in a way I want the booklet and I want to hear the stuff redone by Robert Trujillo, but this is really not a great boxset in terms of material.

The only boxset that needs to be released, and hopefully the Rhoads family will take a page from the Hendrix relatives one day and get on this - is a complete Randy Rhoads box set.

The complete Quiet Riot I and II albums and the aborted third album they were working on when Randy left the band - not the bastardized rerecorded versions that DuBrow put out in the mid 90's on that one disc compilation. It's not that DuBrow's lyrics are anything to get excited about. The guy could compete with Hagar actually, but it's time the authentic fucking albums saw the light of day in this country. Even the Japanese versions (only official release) have been out of print for years.

It's also been long rumored that Randy was recording with Quiet Riot on "Metal Health" (which is the only reason they got a CBS contract in the first place.) If such tracks exist, they would be essential for inclusion. Plus some live material. The existence of the song "Laughing Gas" from DuBrow's compilation implies that a complete recording of an early QR show exists somewhere.

The complete Blizzard & Diary albums with Daisley & Kerslake on them, the way God intended. Plus any B-sides or oddities that are laying around like "You Said It All" and "You Looking At Me Looking At You".

A remastered "Tribute" including extra songs, if there are any. I'm guessing that wasn't the entire show.

According to a 1982 interview in Circus magazine (the issue was ironically released the same week of the plane crash that killed Randy) Ozzy was already writing the Bark of the Moon album while on the road and cutting demos with the band when time permitted. If any such demos exist, those would be a great addition to the box set.

Since DuBrow and Ozzy both claim Randy Rhoads as their "best friend" and a saint, they should be more than willing to contribute to this project. And keep Sharon away from it, for fucks sake!!

So is FORD having a mushroom flashback, or do y'all think this can happen?
