i was reading an old issue of Total Guitar magazine and I decided to read this New Found Glory interview, because I saw, somewhere in the beginning of the mag, that they were going to moan about guitarist who play too fast. what i reead shows how pretty bloody stupid these emo guitarists can be. they even call themselves punk, somewhere in the interview. anyway, i'll show you this bit.
TG: Is Catalyst more of a technical album?
Steve Klein: "Put it this way: for this record I have to wear my guitar a little higher. There's some definite three-chord stuff too, but I think people know we can do that now."
TG then throw Eddie Van Halen into the mix, expecting a stony silence and tumbleweed.
SK: "I definitely respect him. OK, here's how it is with guitar players. You walk into a music shop and it's like [makes a Satriani-esque widdly widdly noise]. And that's amazing, but those people will never be in bands, because they can't write a structured song. There's so many brilliant players in South Florida, but they're trapped doing their own thing in their own world because they're so much better than anyone else. You get these people that are so good at guitar they can't plat a simple thing."
OK, that may not seem like much to you, but to me it's like he's saying that he's the best guitarist and he can write a good song, which NFG most definitely can't. He says that virtuosos will never be in bands. What about EVH?! What about Vai?! What about Becker?! I'm sure Van Halen and David Lee Roth didn't suck with those guitarists in, and they're like three of the greatest guitarists ever.
Put it this way, will we remember Steve Klein in 10 years or EVH?
