Jerry Only, bassist and...sorta co-founder of The Misfits with Glenn Danzig...there was actually a bassist prior to Jerry named Diana, but she lasted for about a week and the Misfits weren't even really formed yet, per se...so I don't count her...

Anyway, Jerry's been the driving force behind the Misfits since the '96 reunion; through negotiations, he managed to obtain the rights to the name, imagery, etc...of course, since Glenn was the face of the Misfits, the guy who wrote all of the songs, and basically ran the band...it's more like Jerry's Misfits are a cover band of the original Misfits...

Fans of the band are wildly split on whether or not Jerry's Misfits should even be around...a lot of us (like Ford and myself) think that Jerry's been running the Misfits name through the mud, but there is a percentage of fans that are still into it...

In a nutshell, there ya go...

There are a lot of parallels to be drawn between a DLR-less Van Halen and a Glenn Danzig-less Misfits...

                    You're spot on...

Which album would you recommend to a person just now wanting to get into the Misfits?

"Walk Among Us" would probably be the easiest to find, since it was the one released on a major label.

"Static Age" is their earliest stuff, and what should have been their first album. Long story, but only a couple of singles came out initially and the whole album wasn't out until 1997 or so.

"Earth AD/Wolf's Blood" - These were the last two Misfits EP's now available on one CD.

Those are the "official" Misfits albums. There's also "Legacy of Brutality", "Collection 1" and "Collection 2". These are worth picking up even if you have all the others, because they're different versions of the songs. Some are arguably better.

Best approach (if you can find it) is the Misfits box set which retails for about $60. It's shaped like a coffin, so you can't miss it. It contains all of the above, as well as the infamous MSP sessions.

"12 Hits from Hell" has a better mix of those sessions, but that is one album you probably WON'T be able to find. At least not at your local Best Buy. It was pulled from release just before distribution due to disputes between band members and the label over mixing and liner notes.

If you see an album labeled "Misfits" that is NOT pictured here, don't buy it! Guaranteed it will suck!
