Hey, have you guys seen this clip on youtube.com of Glenn Danzig in a fight? I've played it at least 10 times and still could not hear the verbal exchange between Danzig and the other guy.

Well...Glenn's account is that it was a setup...with the way the camera begins filming (and ends filming) right at the most appropriate time (and how the footage later becomes North Side Kings promotional footage), I'm actually inclined to believe him...

The whole story is that Glenn was playing at the same place the North Side Kings were, and that they drove a hundred miles to play or something...Glenn's setlist took him over and they were bumped due to time constraints, so the guy in question decided to go confront Glenn about it...

Glenn said that the whole thing (the camera being behind him, filming without his knowledge, etc) was because they were pissed that they weren't going to be paid, the upshot was to confront him, film Glenn hitting the guy and turn around and sue him for buckets of money. Glenn shoved the guy instead, said "Fuck you", the guy bounces back and clocked him.

That was really about it...

I just actually re-read the whole exchange (according to witnesses)...

North Side Kings were driving to Arizona to open for Danzig and whoever else. Apparently there was some kind of scheduling conflict with the promoter, who told them that they were going to go on after Danzig's set ended (which, sure, sounds awfully suspicious, but that's the promoter, not Glenn).

So, they got down there, got their shit backstage and ready to throw up onto the main stage at a seconds notice. They said Glenn's roadcrew was out on stage doing nothing for like 40 minutes (again, who knows?). The promoter was telling them that Glenn would make an announcement after his set that they (and one or two other bands) would still be coming on.

Glenn goes out, does his set, makes no announcement of any sort. Did he know? Did he not know? Who the fuck knows for sure? Anyway, N.S.K.'s throwing all it's shit out on stage like mad when the venue's main PA goes out and the power to the stage drops (which, of course, means that they're done - the kids are leaving and you can't just flip a switch and power up the front stage...).

Glenn was backstage doing photos and autographs with the kids, when the frontman of the North Side Kings decided to go confront him about being bumped from the bill. Now why he would do this really escapes me, because it's basically the promoters fault for bad scheduling, not really Glenn's. To my mind, it looked like a case of too many openers and it would have left no time for Glenn to do his set, so...what do you do? You bump the lessers. Whether N.S.K. had a contract stipulating that they would get paid even if they got bumped I don't know, but guessing by their reaction, I assuming they didn't and that's their own loss.

Anyway, the NSK frontman (who, apparently, also works with Soulfly from time to time) goes and gets in line to meet Glenn and tells his buddy to "start filming it" (he admits this much...which basically tells me right there that he was hoping to catch something on tape to use to his advantage...Glenn's got a reputation for scrapping when you get in his face about something anyway, so...you figure it out).

He gets through the line, shakes Glenn's hand, introduces himself and basically starts calling him out for not being able to play that night. Not yelling, not screaming or being a dick or anything, but being confrontational none the less (which he basically admits to, more or less, in his own statement).

According to one of the witnesses that night, Glenn asked him "Look, why don't you go play now then?", to which the dude replied "You shut the power off and the kids are leaving", and basically went on reading off a laundry list of their problems that Glenn was supposedly responsible for - not screaming and yelling, but basically giving Glenn a bunch of shit about the night not going down their way.

Glenn got pissed off about this after a while, shoves him and says "Fuck you, mother fucker." As to what was said that got Glenn that pissed off, nobody really knows - rumor has it from the same eye witness that the guy from NSK got belligerent with Glenn, started waving his hands around, and started raising his voice...the tape might verify that, I can't say for sure...so...who knows...

The guy from NSK bounced back and punched Glenn in the mouth, was removed by security and Glenn was ushered back to the tour bus...police weren't called (since the concert was on an Indian reservation, there probably wouldn't have been any reason to call them anyway). Some reports said Glenn's mouth was bloodied, others in attendance said Glenn took it exceptionally well and it more or less just caught him offguard...who knows...

On a personal note, after reading several different accounts of the incident, I'm inclined to believe that the reaction he got out of Glenn was probably about what he wanted, knowing that it was all being filmed...by the frontman's own admission, they spirited out the camera footage asap and the next morning it was on the internet as a N.S.K. promotional piece...which, again, smells like set-up to me (at least to a degree).

N.S.K.'s statement mirrored a lot of the above, said he didn't have to apologize for anything other than "kicking Glenn's ass" or something to that nature...

Glenn's statement said, essentially, that he wasn't going to give N.S.K. any more publicity by commenting further on it and that if he "wanted to kill the guy, the guy would have been dead and that's it"...and I don't think he's commented on it since...
