Megadeth could really be extremely popular if this record becomes another Rust in Peace.

Do you know if these are original versions, or did Dave 'remix & remaster' these like the rest?

Either way, this is a kick-ass CD.

Same as the original, except for the last four tracks.

                Interesting.
I don't know why they wouldn't remaster this & release it worldwide.

'Go To Hell' was always one of my favs. I like the lead trade-offs in that one.

                Thx for the nfo.

Well, they already are pretty popular in metal circles: they can headline 3000 seaters here no problem, and that's on their back catalogue legacy.

However i would say that, unlike Slayer, younger fans (I mean people under 25) probably haven't gotten into them to the same extent. Now that they are with Roadrunner, they are in a prime position to do just that and get to playing even bigger joints: it'll never be like 1992-94, but they could see a revivial.

All it would need would be a few career retrospective articles in leading music magazine explaining to people why Mustiane is so important to the history of metal, and the kids would get on board: if you think Trivium is the greatest thing ever, you're going to have your mind blown by Megadeth!

                    Here's a review from blogcritics.org

When a band becomes a revolving lineup of musicians it spells musical doom - Not so far for Megadeth. Even though the band has seen several lineup changes recently, the band is preparing to release one of their strongest albums in years.

Dave Mustaine has managed to stage a come back that started with 2004’s The System Has Failed, comparable to the miraculous second comings of bands like AC/DC and Aerosmith. While The System Has Failed was good United Abominations is just plain excellent.

United Abominations, due out on May 15th, is a solid record and combines all the elements that make Megadeth one of the most formable thrash bands on the planet. Dave Mustaine flexes his guitar skills with more flair than he has shown in years and his lyrical sarcasm and condemnations of the powers that be are stronger than ever.

The album starts out swinging with the one two punch of “Sleepwalker,” that assails internet rumor mongers, and the political dirge “Washington is Next,” that sets the stage for the albums frequent political commentary. The albums title track is easily one of Megadeth's best, and most melodic, tracks since “Train of Consequences,” and album has the same lean, dark feel of their 1988 political masterwork So Far, So Good… So What!

The album is so strong in fact that I’m a little surprised the Mustaine has choose to release their remake of "A Tout Le Monde (Set Me Free)" as the first single. The original version is featured on the band's underrated classic Youthanasia and the new version features guest vocals by Lacuna Coil’s Cristina Scabbia. The only weak track on the album, in my opinion, is “Gears of War,” (the song was released on the internet several months back) and even it rock at times.

In any event United Abominations is a welcome, long overdue return to form for Megadeth and is a prime example of what real metal music is made of. I’ll take Megadeth’s straight up sonic assaults over Metallica's superstar posturing any day of the week.

And another one from blistering.com. This guy clearly doesn't like Mustaine's political stance, but I don't think the point about there being a discrepancy between the originality in Mustaine's lyrics and lack of originality in his music really makes any sense - he concludes by saying it's classic Megadeth anyhow:

Is it just a coincidence that Mustaine rhymes with disdain? Dave has always had a serious hang-up with the direction that the United States has been heading in, more so than the disgust he espoused in the days of “Peace Sells . . . But Who's Buying?” when Megadeth was still considered little more than a Metallica spin-off.

On the group’s most recent offering, the aptly named “United Abominations,” you hear a flag-waving Mustaine throwing around blame and busting a lot of balls, but breaking very little new ground musically for someone who is trying to be a progressive player in the world of heavy metal. Yes, the lyrics certainly challenge the listener and provide a recent history lesson that few want to acknowledge. But some guitar runs and solos seem rehashed and recycled, as evidenced by the addition of “A Tout Le Monde (Set Me Free)," which is now more than a decade old. However, for this updated version Mustaine does borrow the vocals of Lacuna Coil singer Cristina Scabbia to give it a facade of freshness.

Someone was bound to come up with it, but leave it to Mustaine to ponder, “How can there be any logic in biological war?” during “Washington Is Next!” Although it's a clever observation, the fact that it's paired with a guitar riff straight from Iron Maiden’s “Wasted Years” says the metal mouthpiece carefully crafted the words, yet relied on the thrashing and galloping guitars that have been his signature from day one.

The complementary players this time around—guitarist Glen Drover, his brother Shawn on drums and bassist James Lomenzo—melt into the background as the renowned frontman sneers, growls and recounts the state of the world during the title track, “Gears Of War” and “Amerikhastan.”

This is the band's 11th studio album and its first for Roadrunner Records, so Andy Sneap (Killswitch Engage, Testament, Arch Enemy) gets credit as producer to help keep the offering current. You can be sure though that Mustaine had his hand in every phase of the project, right down to the temperature setting in the studio.

Not many surprises here. This is classic Megadeth from the opening note, thought-provoking and passionately opinionated right down to the final power chord.

It's good when stuff like that happens: metal is one of the few genre's of music which appreciated its own heritage, and attracts audiences of wide ranging age groups..

Here are Mustaine's thoughts, from chartattack.com:

Generally speaking, when one hears a band member rave about their group's latest album, two things come to mind: either they're full of it or full of themselves. Bu when that someone happens to be Megadeth founder/singer/guitarist Dave Mustaine, there's a certain degree of credibility. Renowned for his honesty and occasionally fork-tongued delivery, Mustaine is sincere about his band's latest effort, United Abominations.

"I don't know how long the band will be around for or if this will be our last record, but it's certainly the best we've done in a long time," says Mustaine, before stepping onstage for the inaugural Canadian date of Megadeth's opening stint with the Ronnie James Dio-fronted Black Sabbath — er, Heaven And Hell.

"There's a warmth and chemistry in the band that has been missing for a long time. The new members are surprising me because they've been a blessing. They're the right fit, which is exciting for me. They've gotten used to the idiosyncrasies of this band and are energized."

Cleaning house after 2004's The System Has Failed — an album that saw Megadeth in a state of flux after Mustaine's medically imposed inactivity — Mustaine brought in fresh blood via guitarist Glen Drover, bassist James LoMenzo and drummer Shawn Drover for United Abominations. The results ensure that Megadeth usher in their 25th year with their 11th — and most promising — studio effort. Pointed, heated and raging, while still replete with Mustaine's witty sarcasm, the album is a bombardment of meticulous thrash metal driven by cunning and mature pacing. Even Mustaine sees the evolution.

"I write the music myself and you can tell when a band is going through the motions. When you have to deal with group problems, you tend to turn your ears off. There are only three things that cause problems: women, money and religion. What else has started any war? When I eliminated those problems, I could write more enjoyably."

However, while Mustaine notes that he's pleased with the results on United Abominations, he isn't exactly surprised by the fact that he's written a collection of brutish, expedient thrash metal. After this long in the game, there isn't much room for anything else from a band called Megadeth.

"I see a band's moniker as their face," Mustaine muses. "There's a reason the face is where it is and the ass is where it is.

"There are some bands I won't even listen to because the name offends me. It portrays them as something instantly. Still, on a musical level, I'm not going to make a [affects country tone] Meg'erdeath record any time soon. There's a history to this band that we live up to. Stylistically speaking, this is what I'm good at, and the heart of the music is all that matters."
