Boston's Brad Delp, dead at 55

Boston lead singer Brad Delp dies at 55

    March 9, 2007

ATKINSON, N.H. --Brad Delp, the lead singer for the band Boston, was found dead Friday in his home in southern New Hampshire. He was 55. Atkinson police responded to a call for help at 1:20 p.m. and found Delp dead. Police Lt. William Baldwin said in a statement the death was "untimely" and that there was no indication of foul play.

Delp apparently was alone at the time of his death, Baldwin said.

The cause of his death remained under investigation by the Atkinson police and the New Hampshire Medical Examiner's office. Police said an incident report would not be available until Monday.

Delp sang vocals on Boston's 1976 hits "More than a Feeling" and "Longtime." He also sang on Boston's most recent album, "Corporate America," released in 2002.

He joined the band in the early 1970s after meeting Tom Scholz, an MIT student interested in experimental methods of recording music, according to the group's official Web site. The band enjoyed its greatest success and influence during its first decade.

The band's last appearance was in November 2006 at Boston's Symphony Hall.

On Friday night, the Web site was taken down and replaced with the statement: "We just lost the nicest guy in rock and roll."

A call to the Swampscott, Mass., home of Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau was not immediately returned Friday night.

Son of a bitch that sucks ! God knows Boston was short on output, averaging one album every 8 years or so, but at least the first three were legitimate classics.

They'll be getting heavy rotation in FORD Country this weekend.

    Goodbye Brad

If I said what's on my mind
    You'd turn and walk away
Disappearing way back in your dreams
It's so hard to be unkind
    So easy just to say
That everything is just the way it seems

    You look up at me
And somewhere in your mind you see
    A man I'll never be

If only I could find a way
I'd feel like I'm the man you believe I am
It's getting harder every day for me
To hide behind this dream you see
    A man I'll never be

    I can't get any stronger
    I can't climb any higher
You'll never know just how hard I've tried
    Cry a little longer
    And hold a little tighter
    Emotions can't be satisfied

    You look up at me
And somewhere in your mind you see
    A man I'll never be

If only I could find a way
I'd feel like I'm the man you believe I am
It's getting harder every day for me
To hide behind this dream you see
    A man I'll never be

It sure does! Gosh was I shocked when I saw the thread title!

He was the only original band member to stick it out onto Third Stage besides founding member Tom Scholz.

      R.I.P. Bradley.

FORD, glad to hear someone else appreciated "Third Stage." People who gave up on that album did so because the rest of the original lineup had split.

Rock n Roll takes alot out of a person it seems....

And it should be considered a curse to jam with Eric Clapton....

Lots of rockers go early it seems, but at least they all spend their lives doing what they love doing, so the fufillment factor is there..

Great singer! One of the greatest voices of Classic and pure Rock and Roll. Always remembered by his "More than a Feelin". For years, this album was an all time #1 and #2.

Wow, what a tradgic end to a great band.
It would be near impossible to replace Brad's vocals. They make the band and the music so reconisable.
I thought Third Stage was a great album.(just for the record)

Saw Brad at The Gorge 10 years ago. He couldn't hit the high notes, but was impressive nonetheless. Sholtzy had busted his ankle and was hobbling around onstage. Killer show all around.

                          RIP Brad.

                          55?

                          Here's to ya.
