    Sad State of Hard Rock

Hard Rock has really taken a beating these past couple of years. Hip Hop, Rap is dominating. It staggers the imagination. The days of the guitar hero are dead. The local rock radio station in my town has become talk radio. They actually hired a local comedian to do a show in the evenings. And of course the talk radio morning show. Every time I turn on the radio I here talk or Led Zepplin with a splattering of new music. No wonder kids today are listening to Rap. What happened to musicians that can actually play their instruments????? What happened to the guitar solo's???? What happened to goodtime kick ass Rock And Roll.
And I have nothing against Led Zepplin or Classic Rock, but the music industry has to allow some new music to breath into the radio stations, Hard Rock music that is. Hopefully Velvet Revolver and the new release by Judas Priest will reignite the scene. Van Hagar sure as hell, isn't getting the job done. What are your thought's fellow soldiers???

Hard rock died a slow death beginning in the 80's & the 90's no matter what you might think of bands like Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Ratt, Dokken, Poison, Metallica, Megadeth, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden & Alice In Chains. Hard rock was a force to be reckoned with during the 70's with bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Aerosmith, Kiss, AC/DC & Van Halen because it was powerful & it was ballsy. Hip hop is what hard rock used to be during the 70's when I was young pissing parents off since kids today want to be like Nelly instead of Gene Simmons of Kiss which is why hard rock is almost dead as a genre sadly. Hard rock began with in the 60's with the Who, the Kinks, the Yardbirds, Blue Cheer & Jimi Hendrix then Zeppelin & Sabbath, kicked the doors wide open in the 70's. MTV kind of destroyed rock & roll as a force to begin with making it more mainstream & more accessible to the masses with bands like Motley Crue & Bon Jovi which began the slow death of hard rock.

True. That, and the sad fact that most bands that were supreme back in the day suddenly decided that they should "please the audience".
Why settle for something you have, if it's not as good as something you're out to get?

I agree with ya coyote, its the " please the audience" part as much as anything. Look at metallica( now known as tin-can -ica) load, re-load, S&M. St. Anger...

sellouts, problem here is none of their fans that "made" them like any of that shit!!

Yeah, kinda like that one band, Van Halen. They used to be conquering warriors, but, alas, they became fuckin' weenies...

Or the Scorpions. No, wait. They actually retained their attitude, and I've heard that their new album's gonna be great, in a "returning to one's roots" sort of way...

Correction: Let me put it like this... Have ya heard the "Arachnophobiac" album by The Michael Schenker Group? "Unbreakable" reminds me of it (in a good way), except for a couple of songs. (the ballads...)

it all goes in cycle...back when we were growing up, and i was the tail end of it, rock was cool to listen to. now that generation is having kids who want the thing most different from their parents so they rebell and go in the opposite direction, rap. so rock will be back...there are plenty of real good rock bands out there now and we do not need the dinosaurs of the scorpions, judas priest or any other 80s metal to bring back a scene cause they are not the ones to do it. you want new rock, look at some of the "alternative" bands like the Foo Fighters, Audioslave, Franz Ferdinand, Fuel, Hives, Hoobastank, Incubus, Story of the Year, etc that are carrying the flag and will be the bands that keep rock around, like em or not.
