That story about him bein' high and burnin down a part of a national forrest was CRAZY!!!

Get out! I don't remember that story! What happened?

[Matt White]

If I remember correctly (which is always suspect...my memory that is!),
he was high on uppers and somehow managed to set a fire out in the woods that consumed a large number of acres. The National Forrest Service was NOT pleased with him. I think it was around this time that he DECIDED to get clean.
I think John said that his car was stuck and the constant burning on his tires(as in burning rubber) set the blaze. I seem to remember that he was careless with a smoke....during an EXTREME draught!

Wow. I know June wrote RING OF FIRE, so this is probably a stupid question...but that song had nothing to do with this, did it?

His drug-taking and alcoholism when he was younger were the cause of his later illnesses, they say. He would probably have still been alive had it not been for his extreme self-destruction when he was younger. He was only 71 when he died.
