Originally posted by diamondsgirl I love Killing Floor!! Hendrix does a great version as does Howlin' Wolf. Funny because I was going to suggest a little Wolf in heeya. I dig that tune "How many more years?"
I really enjoy Hoey. I got into his holiday music years ago and then started listening to his other stuff and its pretty amazing. I LOVE his cover of Lowrider.
Johnny A. is from the Boston area and so he is well known here, not sure how well known he is elsewhere, but the guy's instrumentals are incredible
to get a taste of him check out a tune called "Oh Yeah" off of his "Sometime Tuesday morning" CD. The whole CD is good, but thats my favorite cut. I think you can hear it at his site:
:DI was just reading an excerpt of a new book on Hendrix..and they retell a tale where when Jimi first arrived in England his manager got he to sit in with CREAM one night...Jimi started playing KILLING FLOOR at that break-neck speed like on BBC...and CLAPTON's jaw hit the floor!!!
Been into Hoey since HOCUS POCUS!!
Johnny A has been covered in GUITAR PLAYER magazine lately...I need to check him out!!!
Ever seen THE ROLLING STONES:25 X 5"??? GRATE version of "HOW MANY MORE YEARS" by Howlin' Wolf live on some old British TV show..with the stones sittin' at his feet!!!:D

I have never seen that, but would love to. What year was it?
Today I was listening to Steve Miller doing that old Robert Johnson tune Come Into My Kitchen and I was totally digging that. (Not as good as Johnson, but still good ) Thats one of my favorite blues tunes.
Miller once said that two of his guitar teachers were Les Paul and T Bone Walker!! I was like No Shit!!! I guess they were both friends of his dad. I thought that was very cool.

I think "25 X 5" was released in 1989...I know there is some "STEEL WHEELS" footage on there. GRATE archive footage of the early 'STONES...BRIAN JONES tells the host of that particular show, "NOw it's time for you to SHUT UP & let's get Howlin' Wolf on!" LOts of early TV performances!!! 5 star!!!
Do you remember the old COORS commercial? A young guy is up on stage rippin' it up on his guitar. An old guy is sittin' at a table drinkin' a COORS....he ask the kid if he can play his guitar a bit..the guy kinda sneers "Okay"..the old guys gets up and JUST SHREDS!!! When he's done, the young guy is like "What's your name?" The old guy says "It's on your guitar." He's playing a LES PAUL!!!

They call it stormy Monday,
but Tuesday's just as bad
They call it stormy Monday,
but Tuesday's just as bad
Lord and Wednesday's worse,
Thursday's oh so sad
The eagle flies on Friday,
Saturday I go out to play
The eagle flies on Friday,
Saturday I go out to play
Sunday I go to church,
I get down to pray
Lord have mercy, lord have mercy on me
Lord have mercy, lord have mercy on me
You know I tryin', tryin' to find my baby
Please send her on home to me
