    Great thread DG.

I'm 32 and I can relate to ALL of those things you mentioned when I was growing up.

Funny, I remember taping songs off the radio!!! HA! Because they weren't released on record or tape, radio stations got em first and played it -- and it pissed me off how they talked over the beginning of the song and fucked it up!!

    ARGGHHHH!!!

Well, over in Rome, Georgia, the Mount Berry Square mall has an Aladdin's Castle in it. Also (I know I'm a kid, but I listen to my parents) CD's were so freaking expensive that your only options were vinyl or cassettes. Another thing, if you wanted an Iron Maiden shirt or something, you had to go to the show and BUY the shirt. Plus, there was no pre-ordering tickets. You had to save up and buy em or win em off the radio

Zeppelin is a great band - I think it's good that kids are into them, Sabbath, Cream and all of the rest.

Rather that than fuckin hip hop.....

I'm afraid it's only because they find Target's T-shirts cool, for many of them. I'm afraid a lot of them don't even listen to Led Zep...

I think you're going to see a groundswell of old classic rock among the kids soon. They'll eventually get sick of the complete SHIT that they are having to listen to now. American Idol/Rockstar stupid reality tv will die soon, and the kids will start digging into mom and dad's album collection for something GOOD to listen to. They'll get back into classic rock. Why bother listening to this NU Rock, Hip Hop, pop idol crap, when you can put on Powerage or Highway to Hell?

Why listen to 50 Cent when you can crank up Toys in the Attic?

Why worry about Kelly fucking Clarkson when you can jam Love it to Death???

Why play Britney or Christina when you can get Beggars Banquet on that stereo????

                      Hell Yeah!!

I worked in record store for seven years, and it's surprising how many 18-22 year old picks up old great music!

But the younger ones generally, but by no means always, pick up the radio filler shit.

i'd like to think that they could dig the great stuff, but as long as they keep buying into trends, then we will keep hearing shit on the radio!

It is beyond me how these kids today can even listen to that rap shit, let alone like it! I hear that shit blasting sometimes, and within a minute or so of being subjected to it, I'm ready to get out a fucking gun and blow away the stereo and speakers in the car that's playing it. I hate that shit so much it drives me insane within a minute or two of hearing it! I'm very tempted, sometimes.

I don't think they like the shit...it's impossible to like something as unlistenable as rap! What I think is is all these kids just listen to the shit to fit in with the other kids because they listen to it, not because they like it, which is really stupid! Another reason is they just enjoy irritating the fuck out of everybody within earshot of their car blasting that shit!

Worse than rap is RnB, IMO, you know girls singing a chorus with a really weak melody in hushed voice in a really high pitch.

We mostly buy into the rap/hip-hop bull because it's "good to dance to". If you go to ANY school dance, that's the bullshit that's blasting over the speakers in the gym or wherever the dances are. I think Dloc can identify with this since he teaches

Maybe well the 10-to-20-year-olds are the ones who could save it all...
A huge majority of the older youngsters have been infected with crap, but so could we be, after all...
My second little sister, who is only 20, has plunged into Led Zeppelin among other golden greats while putting nowaday's shit in the trash - most normal, when you compare... -, and she'll tell me about some of her friends doing the same... Everything is not lost, maybe. Safe when they'll take those rotting turnips Brian Johnstone's Massacre ( ) for sons of a gun...
Basically, there's no reason why the young, today, would have less good ears than their elders did, as long as they could listen to the right stuff soon enough.
But let's not dream too much here: the majority of people will always remain dumb to "real" music!
