    JBL or Infinity

In the tiny shitty confines of my apartment space is limited if not appreciated. So I've been looking for a pair of small yet well at least, decent sounding bookshelf speakers new (so I can play anything but Zeppelin or Floyd through them) and the two choices that I like are these JBL series and the Infinity. Now I'm no audiophile but the Infinity's sound better but the JBL are cosmetically more attractive and slightly more low-end. So...what I'm asking is who makes a better speaker? My roommate says to go for the JBL's but they are $30 more and they do look better then the drab black Infinity's. Is there really a difference? Should anyone care? Is this just another narcissistic rant? Should I call my mother and for some unnecessary and unwarranted (Catholic) guilt? Wil i ever bear her the 9 grandchilden she always wanted? People are dying in Libya and all I can think about is wanting to hear Coltrane's 'Love Supreme' though a god damn pair of decent speakers. Should I not get high and post? Will I turn into another Ace?

    Find out.

Apparently they're both made by Harmon Kardon, so the quality should be comparable. Of course the best way to test them is with your ears, so try them out at the store if you can.

So what you're really saying is that they are both made in China? Actually, I did hear them in one of these yuppie upscale electronic stores. The Infinity's sounded slightly better but I'm hooked on the JBL's so knowing now they are manufactured by the same company I guess the build quality and warranty is about the same. The JBL's are their L 830's - they are way more incredible than they look which is what I'm after. Can't remember what the model number of what the Infinity's were but I'll hear them again tomorrow. Thanks.

Well, JBL could possibly be slightly more expensive just due to the brand name.

But the bottom line is, which ones sound better?

Get half a dozen of your favorite CDs....ones you have been listening to for YEARS and then go to the store and check out both pairs of speakers using music you are completely familiar with.

I have JBL's in custom hemp cabinets and cool tie dye speaker grills. They sound great!

No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!

what you should do kristy, is go and watch the clip of the kids singing iron maiden. it's way cool. and then just pick the speakers that you think are the coolest.

How much are they retail ??

                  I'd go this route...

JBL L830 series 3-Way 6" Bookshelf Loud Speaker

You are bidding on a pair FACTORY-REMANUFACTURED JBL® L830CH-Z CHERRY 3-Way 6" High-Performance bookshelf loudspeaker. They come direct from our factory, complete with the original accessories and the original factory warranty.

Steal the Show. Go Pro.™ With materials and technologies that extend their sonic performance far beyond the industry standard of 20kHz, Studio™ L Series speaker’s bring true studio sound to today's SACD™ sources. Music reproduction duplicates all the subtleties of the original performance in any genre and brings new meaning to "up close and personal" sports action. It's audio performance that's powerful, accurate and alive; and now you can have it with JBL premium L Series speakers.

The L830CH-Z bookshelf speaker is video shielded and features a PolyPlas™ woofer and a pure-titanium tweeter to deliver accurate performance with dramatically reduced distortion for incredibly realistic sound. The 6" woofer deliver excellent bass impact and excitement and the ultrahigh-frequency driver extends response out to 40kHz. Perfect for SACD or DVD-Audio recordings. The tweeter is mounted in our proprietary Elliptical Oblate Spheroidal (EOS™) waveguide for improved high-frequency dispersion anywhere in the listening room.

                  Key features:

Magnetic shielding eliminates video discoloration when placed close to a TV
Optimized cabinet bracing reduces unwanted resonances
Tuned bass port FreeFlow™, increases bass output for enhanced visceral effects

Exactly what I'm going to do. I'm pretty much sold n the JBL's For such a little speaker (and I'm running them with a sub) the sound is just incredible.

I only played music in bars. I never hit on the nasty whores that were there...

I wish I'd followed that line of thinking.
