I bought JBL studio monitors years ago and have been impressed with the sound clarity, bass definition, and durability.

Not really sure about bookshelf speakers but I've never had a problem with mine.........

Bookshelf speakers cost more than mid priced studio monitors...

That's why I posted the refurbished ebay link...

I'd never pay retail for that stuff...

Yeah, I hear ya........although when it comes to speakers, especially studio monitors, I usually go new because you never know how bad used stuff has been abused. Refurbished stuff usually comes with a warranty but still.....certain things I like to buy new for some reason.

I do like the wood grain look of the JBL.......for a bookshelf speaker.

Close to $500 new, asshat. I'd never buy refurbished anyway.

Be very careful if you find a deal that seems a little off or too good to be true. There is a situation taking place nationwide regarding "refurbished" electronics, which are sold in places like Big Lots, yet are not outwardly identified as such. As always, buyer beware.

I have a pair of Tannoy PBM-8s that rule. I have 'refurbished' them out of necessity.

Back in 2000, Pantera released "Reinventing The Steel". I got the cd home, turned up the stereo.
                      LOUD AS FUCK!

Went into the kitchen, and after a few moments began smelling some kind of burnt electronics smell.

Went back into the living room to find it full of smoke, with the Tannoys blowing smoke rings out of the port on the back.

One tweeter no longer worked, and the plastic speaker connection plate at the back was melted on both of them.

A year later I got around to ordering some replacement tweeters. Then about 5 years ago, I got some replacement crossovers (the overheated crossovers were what caused the melted plastic). When doing some testing at home, I discovered the bad tweeter was not bad, it was the crossover that was fried.
I had already gotten the replacement tweeters, so I said WTF and put them in anyway, being brand new.

Then last year, I took one of my speaker grills off, only to discover the foam surround on the front of my 8" woofers was rotting. I took the other speaker grill off to discover the same thing.

So I had new surrounds put on, and the world is right again.

Not only do I use these for my recording projects, but as they are my main speakers for my PC, I use them for gaming as well.

Bought them used in 1997 from a friend for $450. Best $450 I ever spent!

I have a pair of JBL floor monitors that I have not used in 15 years. They sound great.
JBL did not get their reputation by putting out crummy products, that is certain.

No but you can hide your stash inside the speaker cabs. Just use a drill to loosen the speaker mounts and toss the stash in and tighten the speakers back up.

I either use a little iPOD dock or I shake the house to smithereens with a 500 watt stereo with big hippie speakers. I haven't used so called book shelf speakers for years.

To my ears and pocketbook JBL's are the best buy and have a great warranty.

I could have purchased JBL's,klipsch or Infinitys for my home theatre and the clear choice was JBl. stay away from JBL subs, they are junk.

If you go to high end audio stores and talk to someone knowledgable on speaker components they will tell you JBL's crossovers are higher quality than infinity even though harman kardon manufactures both.
Klipsch speakers sound tinny to me. infinity speakers have a higher quality finish.

JBL is pretty much the benchmark for professional sound systems. From everything to concerts to sophisticated concert halls chances are high the speakers are JBL.
