He's a fucking weird guy, that's for sure! I saw a "documentary" on him a long time ago where the majority of people seem to like him yet are making fun of him at the same time. One of the interesting things was his legendary cheapness - specifically - how he used plastic bags in place of luggage on flights. And it was also mentioned that many women entering porn said they wouldn't do two things, bestiality and scenes with Ron Jeremy...

The part of that "documentary" that I tend to remember is how Jeremy was mildly narcoleptic, and there were several scenes where he's driving himself around on the LA freeways in fairly dense traffic and sort of dozing off behind the wheel.

He was a schlub, but not an unintelligent guy in some ways. He harkens back to an era where pornography was still taboo and sort of underground (christ, the guy was working back when they shot movies on actual film). Exactly what is a failed musician? All music is noise. Some people's noise is another person's music. You could put some little two year old kid at a piano and he could slam the keys and make noise. Some asshole somewhere will think it's music. How can you fail in music? You can fail in the music business meaning nobody goes to your shows or buys your songs. But music is so subjective it's virtually impossible to fail at it. Everyone farts. That's noise. Some jerk will think it's music. Sorry darling we all are musicians and it's impossible to fail.

Actually a deep subject if you were to take a dive...

If measured monetarily... as in making a career living out of being a musician... then about 98% of those who picked up an instrument are failed musicians. But then short term if you played a gig and earned enough to pay your bar tab and enough gas to get home... that's a fairly successful measure in it's self.

I've met and attempted to jam with people who've invested thousands of dollars in big name brand gear... who can't pull off a reasonable rendition of Louie Louie with any soul or feel to it. Can't call them failed musicians... they never quite reached musician to begin with.

I've achieved successful musician status in my measure... I've played on stage and made people smile, laugh, dance, fight, cry, sing, beebob, tap their feet and even fall asleep. Done it in church, weddings, total dive bars, outdoor music festivals, arenas and coliseums... with crowds ranging from 3 drunks to 35,000+ maniacs. It's a real eye-opener to realize the power to move people with music... especially if you can induce a frenzy with a large audience... but even more so just to make 1 person smile and dance.

So there you have it... I still think this interest in Ron Jeremy and his dick is some strange fandom baloney by you dudes...
