Oh yeah, don't forget that we are taking jobs away from forestry industry in US. It couldn't have anything to do with fact that we have lower costs from having 10% of world's forests, could it??
No, assholes like Montana senator are making it worse as $7 billion in duties stolen from Canada pile up. We keep making our plants more efficient to compensate, widening gap. NAFTA and WTO rulings are ignored by US, who forget that they are supposedly the champion of freedom and free trade, except when it affects the getting re-elected in their constituency.
Good work Senator!!!
I love you guys in the US, but some of your politicians need a wake up call.
Clinton agrees that US protectionism is wrong, propping up inefficient industries that cost consumer and taxpayers more.

I am glad we helped then, but what other country would allow planes to be diverted to its airspace as others were being driven into scyscrapers?sigpicRoth Army CanadaComment

Don't you love this Free Trade shit too? Those guys expect Canada to abide by any NAFTA decisions, but as soon as a decision goes against the good ol' US of A, they just ignore it.
Hardwood lumber is a great example.Stay Frosty, muthas!Comment

Problem with softwood is that there are real people affected in some states who just will never be able to compete with Canada or rest of world.
Their Senators feel pressure to put industry on life support through protectionist measures and get support from Repubs nationally by "logrolling" which is supporting their agenda in other issues.
System seems fucked because consumer is hurt through higher prices, and people in those states suffer for generations as opportunities are missed to get state involved in other industries that are not doomed like natural resources when they have so little global competitive advanatage. If the BCE thought there were WMD's in Canada, I'm sure they would be conveniently located next to that big pool of oil under Alberta. Just like that's where they were supposed to be in Iraq.Eat Us And Smile
