As it is now, Cubans need the tourism industry (wich represents a lot of their revenues) to survive on a daily basis.
When we go there and fall into their tourists traps, we do them a big favor... beleive me!

They get paid next to nothing. All the tips you give out everyday, the hotel makes them hand it over everyday. If they don't, they get fired.
The hotel can also have them charged with theft!!!

I've been there twice and my sister goes regularely... (lucky her)...

I've given maids some stuff and money and they where happy to take it home.
Every year is different in Cuba... rarety is the issue.
Sometimes a bottle of perfume or a pair of jeans is worth a lot more than the 3 pesos (or so) an hour that the Mexicans make!

We won't be able to solve their economical problems by vacationing there but what I'm saying is that the ones that work in the tourism industry (the people), love to have us there...

Also, it's by getting to talk to them about freedom and informing them on all those issues that are hidden from them that they might start a revolution!

It's better that we go to them than just leaving them there... ignorant... like FIDEL wants it to be...

Well, 'tis winter in half the world... though I have to say winter in the south of Portugal - Algarve, I'm sure any Brits in here know it well, the fuckers are always invading our beaches - is... pretty pleasant.
