Sorry to paint with such a broad brush...but, there are WAY too many people out there, REP & DEMS, that will walk into the
voting booth and click right down the line. If you're doing that, do everyone a favor and don't vote!

It's funny though to see the news channels running with this quote as if he really meant to demean the soldiers.
They're running with it and ripping him a new one. What's worse is the fact that a LOT of people will now take that as FACT, when in reality it's NOT what he meant at all.

Nickdfresh.........You're right, there is a bit of truth to it - but, that's not what he was saying.

Kerry should have started off by explaining that it was a "botched joke", then apologize to the troops. THEN go on the attack against the Republicans. By refusing to apologize, he is just adding fuel to the fire.

            1 more week of fireworks.

The media whores totally took him out of context. Of course, by his own admission he botched the joke. But it WAS a joke.

Sorta like many aspects of his 2004 campaign

Did Kerry Hand Republicans a November gift?
Politicians Look to Capitalize on Democratic Senator's Iraq War Comments

By JAKE TAPPER, MIKE CALLAHAN and AVERY MILLER
WASHINGTON, D.C., Oct. 31, 2006 Ñ - For weeks, Republicans on the campaign trail have been looking for something -- anything -- to talk about other than the record of the Republican Congress and the way the Bush administration has conducted the war in Iraq.

Monday, they got their wish. While stumping for local Democrats in California, Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., addressed students at Pasadena City College and made a comment about education and the war in Iraq that lent itself to much controversy.

"You know education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. And if you don't, you get stuck in Iraq," he said.

It was a rhetorical gift for the embattled Republican Party, which is eager to run against Kerry again. The White House, in an unusual move, notified the media ahead of time that the president would address Kerry's comment in remarks at today's campaign rally in Georgia.

                  Election Fodder

The Kerry kerfuffle is a prototype for controversies of the new media age. "Thanks to the Internet, all life is on the record now," observed Jeff Jarvis, a journalism professor at the City University of New York. "Everything a politician says and does is public and the world can see in a second. É that's life now."

After Kerry's remarks were mentioned on the Web sites of local newspapers, including the Whittier Daily News, the video popped up on YouTube and conservative blogs like Newsbusters.org, and then talk radio seized on them.

Though, as opposed to 2004, it didn't take Kerry weeks to respond to attacks against him. Shortly before noon Tuesday, Kerry, a Vietnam veteran, responded, insisting in a statement that he had not belittled the intelligence of soldiers serving in Iraq, but rather that of "the president who got us stuck there."

But it may have been too late. The train had left the station.

"I believe Sen. Kerry owes an apology to many thousands of Americans serving in Iraq, who answered their country's call," said Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., campaigning in Indiana.

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh said, "It tells us what John Kerry himself and the Democratic Party think about the troops and the U.S. military."

By the time Kerry got to a microphone in Seattle this afternoon to explain what he called a botched joke about the president, hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Americans, had already heard about it and Republican candidates were talking about it.

"It disgusts me that a bunch of these Republican hacks who have never worn the uniform of our country are willing to lie about those who did," Kerry added.

What's unclear is if Kerry's comments will help rally Republican voters or help their party portray Democrats as against the troops to score victories next Tuesday. A Democratic congressman told ABC News Tuesday, "I guess Kerry wasn't content blowing 2004, now he wants to blow 2006, too."

Last night, a family showed up on our doorstep trick or treating.

Dad had just gotten back from Iraq and was in full Army uniform. He was walking the neighborhood with his wife and 3 daughters. His face beaming with pride as his little girls shrilly chimed "Trick or Treat" when I opened the door. He couldn't stop smiling as the little sparsely toothed girls held their bags open waiting for me to drop their goodies in.

After dispursing said goodies, I asked him how long his tour. He said that he was in Iraq for 2 years and that he may have to go back. He said, "Right now, I'm going to soak up my family as much as I can." I then took the liberty of asking how he felt about Kerry's comments.

His response is typical of the soldiers I know. The level of humility and self-confidence always astounds me. I don't know if it's a part of their training or if that's the kind of people that enlist but he shrugged his shoulders and said, "Politicians don't really affect us. They say all kinds of things to get people's attention and in the scheme of things, their words don't mean much." He didn't bow his head or do anything but smile as he said it. But his last sentence was the kicker...

"Most rich people think we're all dumb anyway..."

And he's right. Kerry can say he was joking, say it was aimed at Bush, he can backpedal until he's blue in the face. But that isn't the first time I've heard some spoiled rich bastard refer to Military enlistees as uneducated, cornered individuals who have no other choice. And every time I hear something like that, I feel very sorry for the person that said it. Because if you take away their money, their power, and in some cases the camera that's on them....they'd be on the street corners begging for change. They'd be begging at the feet of the people they just got finished saying negative things about.

They have no life skills outside their checkbooks and they can't imagine being alive if they aren't in front of a crowd. They'd feel like they'd cease to exist. And 90% of the time, they got where they are by pillaging and lying to the very ones they degrade.

American Legion to Sen. Kerry: Apologize Now

                        10/31/2006 1:49:00 PM

INDIANAPOLIS, Oct. 31 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The National Commander of The American Legion called on Sen. John Kerry to apologize for suggesting that American troops in Iraq are uneducated.

"As a constituent of Senator Kerry's I am disappointed. As leader of The American Legion, I am outraged," said National Commander Paul A. Morin. "A generation ago, Sen. Kerry slandered his comrades in Vietnam by saying that they were rapists and murderers. It wasn't true then and his warped view of today's heroes isn't true now."

While addressing a group of college students at a campaign rally in Pasadena, CA., Monday, Kerry suggested that they receive an education or "if you don't, you'll get stuck in Iraq."

"While The American Legion shares the senator's appreciation for education, the troops in Iraq represent the most sophisticated, technologically superior military that the world has ever seen," Morin said. "I think there is a thing or two that they could teach most college professors and campus elitists about the way the world works.

"And while we are on the topic of education, why doesn't the senator and his comrades in Congress improve the GI Bill so all of today's military members - reserves and guard included - can achieve the educational aspirations that the senator so highly values?" Morin said. "The senator's false and outrageous attack was over-the-top and he should apologize now."

                        ---

That brings up a good point.

When I was Administrative officer of the Young Marines, I can't count the times enlisted Marines told us that they were constantly being put off for the college incentive that they were promised.

They complained that the promised education was given when it was convenient for the Military instead of when you'd fulfilled your part of the agreement.

Congress could definitely do something about that shit.

Look at the silly Republicans scramble. Lap it up you conservative dummies!

After years of Republican scandal and failure they finally feel like they have something.

Ha ha! And these people have apologetically supported a President who has said one dumb thing after another.

The line for apologies starts right here:

"You're doing a good job, Brownie."
