When GM started modeling the new GTO's after the Australian car, I knew they ran out of good ideas themselves.Comment

I'm seeing a trend that we still make the high quality stuff that you buy one or two of, but not the mass produced stuff. And definitely NO electronics. Mostly Taiwan & Japan.“Great losses often bring only a numb shock. To truly plunge a victim into misery, you must overwhelm him with many small sufferings.”Comment

I would argue the opposite. Holden's are great cars. It is in fact GM's, and Ford's, lack of foresight by ignoring the domestic US small car market and some of the great products they had abroad for most of the 1990s that has damaged them severally...
From a purist driver point of view, the GTO was lackluster; but the Pontiac G8 is a great car that rivals any of that overrated BMW stuff and the beautifully styled (but VERY unreliable junk) that Mercedes pimps...Last edited by Nickdfresh; 02-22-2009, 10:09 AM.Comment

Nick, it would have been more of a sign that GM still had some brains if they didn't take the Holden and slap a GTO badge on it, you know what I mean?
The best they could do to bring back an icon was to recycle a car already being made?
It still doesn't deserve the badge.
The G8 I know nothing about.
But I do know this...
Every used GTP I looked at had some sort of problem with the supercharger or head gasket...I stopped looking after the 3rd consecutive "problem".
Don't know why GM loves those 3.8 engines...they are in everything...including the newer (cough) Chevy Impala SS. Bad idea, I thought.Comment

Um, the Series II 3800 engine is one of the best engines ever conceived --absolutely bulletproof as an engine. I had one (Buick LeSabre) with over 180,000 miles on it as a winter car. The thing used almost no oil and ran like a top....
The problem is the shitty gaskets they used on the last generation of Pontiacs using it. But they are getting rid of it...Comment
