    Inauguration

For fuck sake this is ludicrous, it's just a guy taking an oath and reading out his 1000th speech in the last year.

The BBC News program for it is 7 and a half hours long.

    CNN's is 16 and a half.

The only way to sensibly fill programs that long is if he gets shot.

That might be a bit tricky though with 8 000 cops, 10 000 National Guard, 1 000 FBI agents in addition to the Secret Service and hundreds of others from the Department of Homeland Security, the National Park Service and U.S. Capitol Police.

    Nutso.

    LOL

I marched in Clinton's first inauguration as I helped with some of the many organizations and high school bands that love this sort of thing. I even saw Al Gore's old school Cadi limousine close up as everything was done and we military kids were enjoying a beer outside late on the occasion...

But I think one can appreciate of the last eight years of utter shit that we might throw a big party! :D

But yeah, the media stuff is a bit overblown...

You should see our local paper. Look, I understand the cultural significance of the United States electing it's first black President. Yet do I really need to read of this significance via an interview with the guy working the drive through at the nearby Burger King?

It's like the manner in which certain awards shows are filmed: If a black entertainer accepts an award, immediately the camera will zoom in on the first person of color available in the audience. There is something peculiar, not to mention somewhat cynical about the entire enterprise.

Yeah, they went overboard with the MLK Day and "glory hallelujah, free at last!" stuff yesterday. But it is a significant event.

I'm not demeaning the importance in any way. I am merely pointing out the media's clumsy, painfully awkward (and at times genuinely laughable) attempts to cover it.

It's a party and the whole world is invited.....

You can celebrate the first African American President, or the fact that the dumbest piece of shit to ever occupy the office is gone, or the hope that our long international nightmare is over, or all of the above.

And may this be the LAST time the BCE occupies the White House!

Perish the thought. Having lived under this nitwit as the governor of my state, the only positive thing that I can offer is the belief that the planet will go foom in late 2012.

That's actually really cool. Someday I'd like to attend an inauguration just to witness first hand the history of it all.

Last time I was in Florida I noticed that all the elevators have a safety certificate with his name on it.

I started using the stairs more...

Instead of bending over prostrate before your Hope and Change posters with that candle up your ass, do a little objective research ::coughbiden: :coughclinton:: once in a blue moon..
