My son goes to daycare in a ladie's house who's husband smokes. Of course, nobody smokes while the children are there (he's off working all day). But, when my 2 years old comes home, his hair and clothes smell so much...
It's just gross!

I was a regular smoker until I was 29 and I quit (cold turkey). Now I can smoke a cigarette once or twice a year... To socialize.

I'm glad I was able to quit!

Actually he does not drink coffee. Which probably explains how he's able to keep his blood pressure down, depsite being a recovering tobacco addict with one of the most stressful jobs in the world.

I'm useless before my first cup in the morning, I'll admit it. Which could be why my blood pressure isn't as good as it could be.

I was meaning that when big pharma turn around and try and justify the prices of drugs they always say that they need to make all that money for 20 years to pay for their research when what they actually mean is that they need the money to pay for the marketing.

The second big problem is that they put so much effort into dumb anti-depressants rather than stuff we really need like new antibiotics because you take anti depresents for years and in the US you can market them directly to the customer whereas an antibiotic is only taken for a week or two.

This is why there hasn't been a completely new antibiotic developed in 20 years as more and more bugs become immune because farmers stuff them into livestock.

Sometimes the free market can produce really stupid results...

I agree that the drug companies spend way more money on doctor perks,free samples and media advertising than they do on research and testing. I was in a doctor's office and was reading a trade journal and the gist of it was that.....doctor's over-prescribe medication by an alarming percentage over 50% I believe......the article went on to say that doctor's get huge incentives to prescribe certain drugs and do so to reap the fringe benefits....this was from the AMA itself, I believe........

As far as banning public smoking......I think the market should correct itself, especially as far as bars are concern.......bars should have to disclose that they are a smoking facility and if overwhelming customer sentiment says that people will not go to such places and there's no profit, bars will become non-smoking.......or if a bar realizes that if it offers a smoke free place they will make more money than you'll see bars going smoke free.......it should be fully disclosed that the bar is either smoking or non smoking so we as consumers can make that decision, not the government.........on the flip side and having worked in bars for years.........employee safety should be factored in......if a bar offers smoking they should be required to have proper ventilation or filtration of smoke.......I mean, if you have a grill, you have to have proper fire suppression and safety.....why not the same for smoking......
