Well once we ditch those useless nukes, get out of Iraq and spend on more important things like special operations, then we won't have to spend as much.

      Ditch nukes?
We need that trump card now more than ever.

We also need to stop being the guardian angels for the entire planet.

Well not all of them, just the warheads that are 500 kilotons. Because in the age of precision guided weapons, it doesn't make a lot of sense to wipe out a whole area.

That rings very true. Nukes are just needed for the bunker busters.

I can't see dismantling the "we crazy mofo's that going' kill you all" weapons, but you are right about the precision guided weapons. And I am not one for the MIC. I think loyalty is won through the "damn, this caca is nice, we don't want to mess this up" route, such as area-centric schools, hospitals and disaster reliance.

Does the US really need 6000 nuclear warheads though?

Canada doesn't need a big military anyway. When was the last time they started a war?

Every nation thinks nukes are great --until they get them (read India and Pakistan). The command and controls are exorbitantly expensive and even the US had a problem funding other aspects of its military after WWII when it discovered that nukes were by no means cheap deterrence and actually may have cost more than keeping larger numbers of standing soldiers and tanks...

Never really thought about things from that perspective....

Just watched Coach's Corner and Cherry payed tribute to the Canadians who fought at Vimy Ridge in WWI in 1917. Definitely a defining moment in our history.

I thinking maybe well just need 100 once we can get another nuclear weapons reduction treaty going with Russia. We'll need a few in order to destroy pakistans nuclear weapons in case that country gets taken over by the Taliban or just to have one that will go straight up Kim Jong-Il's ass.
