I don't think it was deeply wrong or offensive really more just a pretty pathetic attempt with no other options. They are taking the coin so I guess can expect to have to listen to this kind of thing.

The army guy is trying the most obvious trick you can get by trying to appeal to their pride.

They are people that were born under a shitty dicatorship whose families were then starved for 10 years by sanctions and then had the fuck bombed out of their country with 100s of thousands of civilian casualties. So now with no jobs and little electricity they are offered a gig in the police so they can get some money to feed their kids. They know that by doing this there is a fairly decent chance they will be blown to fuck by a suicide bomber when they go to collect their pay.

If all that wasn't bad enough some rich guy from the country that is responsible for the majority of this appears and starts saying they don't have dicks because they aren't taking enough opportunities to shoot their countrymen who could at this point may be seen as the resistance to an illegal foreign invader. An invader who is going to fuck off home shortly maybe leading them to have their heads cut off as collaborators in reprisals during the forthcoming civil war.

I'm not sure that any of my friends have had similar experiences in locker rooms, I hope not.

Except he's talking to the Shiites, who were mostly happy about the toppling of Saddam, and have used the resulting occupation to form a political hegemony that basically seeks to fuck over the Kurds and Sunnis. I think the US invasion was absurd from day one. But spare me the notion that it is only the US that is to blame. The Iraqis need to get their act together and stop butchering each other in an ongoing civil war, and that only happens when the Shias decide to stop using the US as a giant armored, infantry, and air power shield against the Sunni ex-insurgents/militias...

This speech should actually be given by senior US politicians and military officers on a daily basis to their Shiite gov't that is largely based on a militia, with the implied threat of rapid, complete withdrawal and an arming of the Sunnis...

Sesh, got no beef with you but let me run this by you....One could arguably make a "victim" of the Queen of England. Pity is a waste of time....no good person wants it from anyone. The gist of your post would leave one to believe that these Iraqi's need compassion and pity, no human being would want this. It is more likely the case that these people have lived for generations in hopelessness. Maybe they can't imagine how to suck it up and kick ass. I'll bet that soldier knows all about that!
