Would many of you dish out the same type of criticism and bullshit if she weren't female?
Any politician deserves being under the microscope... but I sense a certain lack of objectivity with the gender crap being thrown about.
How far do you think she would have gotten is she weren't a female? She would be laughed off as Quayle-lite is she were a guy. Please, I'm so tired of the phony, "sexism" cliche...
WTF Zahzoo you're an old old guy do you not remember Dan Quayle?
He got tons of shit and he's a rocket scientist compared to Palin.
Now that you remind old me... I do remember Quayle. There was a time and tradition of selecting a VP that followed the old recipe for great comedy routines... straightman and a whacky side-kick in the spirit of Abbot & Costello/George & Gracey, etc... It had a good balancing/entertainment effect on the white house. Carter/Ford, Regan/Bush (they swapped roles at times), Clinton/Gore was a classic... and I see Obama/Biden shaping up nicely...
So from that perspective you're right about the target of shit and mental challenges.
I guess being a dad of 3 daughters and a grampa of a grand-daughter I've come to see some of the not so blatent sexism that gets veiled as kidding or masked criticism. If any of them amount to something in life it would piss me off to no end to hear some of the gender crap folks spew about and diminish any success they've achieved as being some token woman rather than a person who accomplished things on their own merit/work.
Given all the things surounding Palin... she couldn't have gotten to where she's at just being a pretty face with a folksy personality. She also had to have some smarts, leadership and drive/motivation to accomplish the things she has... I don't see many people extending any respect for that. Soapbox mode=off...

I hope you've never said anything negative about Hillary Clinton or Nancy Pelosi, because gosh darn, that would just be sexism!

I would. This isn't about gender as much as it is professional ineptitude. Personally, I can't see this woman being qualified to run anything expect her rhetoric in front of a camera lens.
Her poll numbers re: favorability among Alaskans, which were at 80% in June of 2008, are now below 50%. If anything, her resignation headed off what would have quite possibly have been a defeat had she stuck around long enough to run for re-election, and said defeat would have killed whatever chances she had in 2012 (which, realistically, are slim-to-none regardless).
She certainly has the ability to energize a PORTION of the GOP base, but her appeal outside of that fraction (and outside of the party) is minimal at best.

In the end, that's really what it came down to for me. The woman clearly had little to no intellectual curiousness (in fact, she seemed proud of what she didn't know) and rationalized things like the Iraq war as being part of "God's will." A combination of mental laziness, an unquestioning dogmatic approach towards ideas and a rigid religious posture that weren't high on my list of favorable characteristics for someone to be a heartbeat away.
The author of that piece, short of citing the Congressional Budget Office (who are known far and wide for their accuracy) provides no backup for his contentions that we will be so much better off with cap and trade. Ditto getting your GDP projections from the EPA. Pot and Kettle in that situation.
Speaking of not understanding it, most of the Democratic members of Congress who voted for it did not read it. They couldn't. With the 3AM additions, there were only two copies available. One John Boehner had. The one that gave Waxman fits when it was read out loud.
