Hell, just look how far we have dropped in decency since Clinton. The whole John Edwards thing is nothing more than news filler. Even news of the sex tape that the judge just ordered returned was met with a collective yawn. We've seen too many of these things to really be shocked anymore. The next celebrity socialite is going to have to film having sex with a hippopotamus to get any type of recognition. Even then, I think I saw a website already like that, so again....yawn.

Exactly. We are hypocrites, and the problem is rooted in the astoundingly immature attitude toward the subject of sex that we as Americans perpetuate. Think about it: A tv talk show host who also happens to be arguably the most sucessful business woman in U.S. history turns into a blubbering adolescent, perplexed and incapable of uttering the word vagina on her program, inanely substituting the playground word "va-jay-jay". The most well recognised sportsman on the planet is brought down by a scandal, not based upon marital infidelity but on the newly coined diagnosis of "sexual addiction".

What the fuck is taking place here? On one hand we have advertisers showing women in the most obvious of contexts, dressed to reflect the ultimate in desire or conquest. On the other we have females of all ages going to pathological extremes to meet these inferred "standards", and pretty much screwing up their dignity (as well as their sanity) in the process. Parents are taking kids who have not mastered riding a bike without training wheels and stuffing them into bikinis in order to win beauty contests, apparently failing to give any thought as to how this may be affecting the kid's own ideas about dignity, self respect and awareness.

As a people we are completely batshit on the subject of morality, yet use this same questionably absurd concept to define another person's character. At this point, is it really any wonder things have turned out the way they have?

Not really, Craig. Remember when Dubya ran during the first election, he was saying things like he would restore the morality and dignity to the Presidency. Somehow inferring that Gore was pulling Monica's hair out of her face while she was giving Clinton a BJ. The powerful Religious Right ate that shit up. Carl Rove was brilliant in pandering to them and not making the mistake Poppy did in ignoring them.

The central theme to Dubya's campaign was restoring morality to The White House. What immoral thing did Gore get caught doing, other than allowing Tipper to abuse government power by starting the PMRC The old, He who's without sin, seems to be a passage Dubya missed that day in Bible study. Once he was born again, so was his memory. Raging alcoholic, drug abuser and horrible husband were all in the past for him and should of never been brought up but that same standard couldn't be applied to Gore.
