Oh, swell. As if there weren't enough headaches caused by ill-informed conclusions taking place in this section, now we have Dueling Deities. Somebody skip ahead to the end so we can find out how this winds up.

For one thing the Revolutionary war was led by an organized minority against the world's military superpower. It was far from a military industrial complex. George Washington harassed the British buying time until Benjamin Franklin could convince the French to back the revolution and convince Great Britain the war would be too costly for their empire. Because of a lack of proper supplies, life was tough if you were in George Washington's army. Read up on the winter at Valley Forge.

Wars rarely help the economy because they run up huge war debts. Historically bankers love war and Queen Elizebeth I avoided war because it empowered the military and drained the treasury. The situation in the US after World War II was unique. In most cases war devistates economies; especially, if it happens where you live. Just ask anyone in Germany who is old enough to remember.

The best way to grow an economy is to have a trade surplus. That means more wealth is coming in than going out and it creates real productive jobs. If you have to run up long-term debt to create jobs that is just increasing the liabilities on the balance sheet. Sure you can count it as an asset but I will take owner's equity over debt any day. Then of course someone has to pay all this debt. You have two choices. Raise taxes which if done too much brings the economy to a halt or you can monitize the debt by inflating the currency. This lowers the multiplier on the debt and if you make everyone's money worth zero, you have eliminated the debt but ruined everyone's savings and the economy because nobody wants to work for nothing. That's how it works. Right now we are choosing to run up debt, monitize it, and increase taxes. You might as well learn some outdoor camping skills because with this kind of policy, only a fool would want to work.

People coming out the woodwork all of a sudden speaking out against him?! Umm where were all of you when Bush used his propaganda machine to scare use into Iraq?! This man lied so much that he had the undercover agents identities exposed when they were about to put him on blast! Where was the outcry then?!

You have people saying he's ruining the country, he's promised false hope. Really...

This recession started a yr before the man was even in office!! Hundreds of thousands of jobs were lost before the man came into office! But how convenient it is that you don't hear about that from the right?!

No President has come into office with 2 wars & a recession going on, No One!! But it's all good let the black man handle it and we can blame him!

Like he said when he started this journey this is going to be a marathon not a sprint! It took a decade to get where we're at now and it's going to take yrs to get out of this mess but for some reason People just don't get it??

And now people are complaining about Michelle Obama because she's advocating healthy life styles for our kids. Even though Doctors, fitness experts etc have been saying this for yrs now we need to do something about the food our kids are consuming! Especially in the black community with the high blood pressure, diabetes, heart conditions etc.. that alot of us suffer from.

You have Palin giving advice, saying how she could've done a better job, Really?! She couldn't even finish her term as governor straight lying saying how she wants to spend more time at home with kids. But low & behold she's doing speaking engagements, tv shows etc.. Don't hear anyone bringing that up?!

You can call me a Obamabot, WTFE!! It wouldn't have mattered if he was green I voted for him because he's smart & intelligent and was about uniting! Like he said it's not about me it's about all of us!!

But on the other hand you have some reps saying how they're going to break him, we're going to say No to everything! Yea, that's a good way to put this country back on its feet!!

If the President fails we all fail but some just don't get it??!!

          Pissed Off....
I have one question. Have you read through Obama's healthcare law? Have you noticed what it already has done to healthcare prices? They are going through the roof. Oh yeah, did you know there is a home sales tax of 3.5% in it? Enjoy, a huge tax if you sell your home if you make a profit on it. What does that have to do with healthcare? Oh yeah, Obama care sets up 150 new government agencies. Where is all the funding for these going to come from? Oh yeah, us.

Did you know Barrack Obama has spent more money than all previous presidents before him in just two years? If he really wanted to fix things he would have cut the spending, let the too big to fails on Wall Street fail, and get us the hell out of the middle east. Also, he should push alternative energy technology and make the US the leader in that. He hasn't done shit. He's about more for him and his banker friends and less for the average American. Plus, he wants to give illegal aliens amnesty for the votes so him and his politician friends will never be voted out of office.

It's this president's policies and the economic situation why people are pissed. It really has nothing to do with his skin color. He could have been a hero to the people but he chose to sell himself out to the oligarchs instead and people see him as a traitor for that.

One of the key factors of the revolution was rising up against taxation without representation by the British. This led to boycotts like the Stamp Act, which in the short term was successful. The problem is that the 13 colonies had money woes keeping the war afloat, compounded by the fact that there were a few different currencies (including British) being used. Day to day commerce still existed, yet was drastically reduced, leading to shortages (as you suggested) like Valley Forge. So in effect, the United States was founded upon a wartime economy, no matter how you slice things.

Wars rarely help the economy because they run up huge war debts. Historically bankers love war and Queen Elizebeth I avoided war because it empowered the military and drained the treasury. The situation in the US after World War II was unique. You appear to be well versed in this stuff, so perhaps you could explain something to me. Reading of the events leading up to WWII, I have often come across the phrase "Suing for peace". What does this mean, and what would such a thing entail?

WWI was a snowball effect. It gave various brokers of power an excuse to make their move. Then you have all sorts of conspiracy theories about the bankers setting the war up to make more money. Suing for peace is sort of a negotiation. Instead of coming in and taking over with power you go in and negotiate a deal using your military as collateral. It's better to take over undamaged real estate in other words.

A wartime economy is where the major manufacturing focus is on goods used in war. The Soviet Union is a good example. Their major focus was weapons, not making good cars and stuff like that. The US is currently a wartime economy because we have outsourced our consumer manufacturing to the level that most he domestic manufacturing is military based. We currently spend 60% of our budget on the military.

The colonies had a diverse economy from everything from silversmithing, ship building, to textiles, to agriculture. What happened was Great Britain ran up huge war debts and had to pay them off and so they increased the taxes in the colonies. So it sparked a tax revolt. Once the British were no longer a threat people went back to growing and making stuff. So where's the war economy here? I don't see it.

I would say the early US economy was mostly agrarian. I believe our biggest exports were cotton, tobacco, sugar, and lumber. Basically, we were a raw resource supplier to Europe.

Thanks for that man, I appreciate it. Perhaps I have attached too literal a meaning to the term "wartime economy". As opposed to defining it as works and services rendered in war, I've always thought it was a term defining the state of the economy itself. Thanks for pointing out the true definition.

bush 43 spent trillions (TRILLIONS) on his 10 year tax cuts, 2 wars, and new entitlement program. something like $5 or $6 trillion. that’s to say nothing of the rest of his budgets. or reagan’s. or kennedy’s, or…well, you get the picture.

Obama is pretty good at giving speeches. As far as being out of touch, he's in the same club as the rest of our latest presidents. Obama's expertise is finding a good burger joint. I would take Five Guys over McDonalds any day. Clinton was a McDonalds president and Obama is a Five Guys president so when burgers are concerned, Obama is truly an expert in that area.
