I see the Californians voted for an end to gerrymandering which is good surely?
The US is the only developed democracy in the world that allows the politicians to decide who votes for them by rigging the boundaries of districts- fucking madness which leads to most seats being safe seats, corruption and ineffectualness.
It's too dull and complex an issue for most people to be interested in but it's really important in deciding who you end up with running shit.
Sure a district can only vote for certain people but the sum of all the districts go into the house where they vote as one body. The system is set up this way because people in their own local areas will know people running out of their districts more than someone in another part of the state. If the people in that particular district choose to keep voting losers in, then I guess it's a dumb district. No! You can't have the keys to the wine cellar!Comment

As far as FOX News and MSNBC go. The bottom line is ratings. FOX chose to go with an all conservative format and has done real well with it. MSNBC went from a middle of the road CNN type format to being all liberal and their ratings are hurting right now. Olberman used to be popular when Bush was running the show but with half a term of Democrat rule, people are tired of it. CNN is middle of the road and ratings are down. If anything this shows conservatives watch more television or just FOX or liberals watch a more diverse spread of networks than just one, or watch less television. No! It's seems like hanging on the right and promoting it is a good way to make money. Even Geraldo Rivera jumped on the wagon. The Annoying Bill O' Riley is up in the ratings, Sarah Palin is now a multi-millionare tying Barrack Obama in personal wealth, and Rush Limbaugh when from being a poor DJ in Sacramento to a rich tycoon in Palm Beach. Conservatism=$$$$$$$$ in today's market. Not that I like any of these people but it's just a fact. I'm suprised Gene Simmons isn't waving the flag in a cowboy hat yet.No! Those nutty Christians - always consulting the Bible as basis for discernment between what is or isn't rubbish, huh? Get them.. so funny huh..
Kinda like the Founding Fathers, those dumbskulls - always consulting the Bible - praying, fellowshipping, creating consensus between their own desires and what the Bible says is or is not a bad way to go in creating laws and the Constitutional government..Comment

The founding fathers were the ones who originally recognized the fundamental NEED for church- state separation, GAyR... that's why it's guaranteed in the Constitution.Originally posted by conmee

No kidding. They were pretty much filled with contempt for those who tended to proselytize, and were highly distrustful of those that did. However, the phrase "separation of church and state" does not appear in the U.S. Constitution. Only the First Amendment makes mention that "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."
