Why do you think the BBC Top Gear show gets 300 million views worldwide?
Because they have the right combination of hosts that do that show. It's the chemistry between Jeremy, James, and that short dude whatever his name is. Our public broadcasting system sucks. No way would they pull that kind of show off. They are too serious and pompus here. Unless you like to see Charlie Rose interviewing one of his rich capitalist friends like David Rockefeller or Ted Turner there is not much to see there.

Maybe but the point is that if you are trying to sell auto commercials in the middle of your car show how can you you say the new Ford is shit?

They have a US Top Gear and I couldn't even watch it. The appeal of Top Gear over here is that it is British. It's funny and entertaining. Plus, they cover some cars that we don't have here in the US that are exotic and interesting.

You get rid of Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Hammond (forgot his first name) and you have lost the show. I also like the celebrities showing up and running the race track. It's a good show but then I'm a car guy.

I don't think the question is whether the government runs things or the private sector runs things, I think it's a question of what you get for your investment. The US Government is hopelessly corrupt and when that is the case, you certainly want to give it as little money as possible. That's why a lot of Americans are leave me alone I will do it myself types. Now if the government gives you good value for your tax money, then people tend to be happier with the government running more things. That may work great in certain parts of the world but socialism here just would not work. We have always been rough and tumble and always will be. Just look at our most socialistic states. They are all broke. California had the seventh largest gross national product in the world. It was a country unto itself. The socialist policies of the state broke the state.

We can't manage socialism here, it's a disaster.

We are still the old west with robber barons and crooked politicians trying to take it all over and the little people trying to beat them back. It's still a pretty wild place. The only difference is the indians have casinos and lawyers.

Actually what broke California was Republican governors and right wing ballot initiatives which have destroyed the state's ability to collect enough revenue to function.

Up here in Washington state, we have a similar problem with the right wing ballot initiatives, and though we supposedly have "Democratic" governors, the last two have been members of the DLC cult, which effectively makes them Republicans.

You blame California spending too much on Republicans? Yeah Arnold went in there trying to cut the spending but the Democrat legislature wouldn't work with him. They spent like drunken sailors. The state never adjusted for the job loses due to companies leaving Cali because of it's anti-business attitude and high taxes.

Now the greedy corporate outsourcing did have something to do with California's problems as well. But please, you can't blame the problems of one of the largest liberal states in the nation on the Republicans.

I heard the head of NASA will have to resign shortly for referring to space as "big".

Herr Gropenator was brought in for one reason only.... to get ENRON off the hook for the West Coast blackouts, and the financial hits the state of California took from that. But the financial problems go way back before then. Blame it on Governor Jellybean in the 60's and 70's, and the passage of the ridiculous Proposition 13 in 1978, which was sold to the sheeple as "lower taxes".

Arnold won because Grey Davis raised the vehicle registration fees too high and pissed the public off. Arnold won because he was a well known celebrity that seemed more credible than Gary Coleman, a porn star, and the long list of nobodies running. Everyone knew who Arnold was from the movies and gave him a shot.

The Enron thing probably would have happened with no matter who was in office. It was the classic never let a crisis go to waste ploy. Much like the bankers bailout.

                              Much like Clinton did.

Bush legacy of course was so beyond shit before he did the same thing it's hardly worth mentioning.
