Arrrr'nold Had a Little Secret (Child Out of Wedlock)

    Arnold had child with employee

It was more than just growing apart: former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed late Monday that his marriage was on the rocks because his wife Maria Shriver left him, and had done it after finding out that he fathered a child with a household employee.

In a statement to the Los Angeles Times, the movie star – who left office earlier this year – admitted his infidelity was what derailed their 25-year marriage.

“After leaving the governor’s office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago,” he said, referring to fathering the child. “I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry.”

“I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time,” he added. “While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not.”

Shriver’s spokesman had no comment on Schwarzenegger’s Monday statement.

The Times is not revealing the name of the household staffer nor that of her child to protect their privacy.

In an interview with the Times on Monday before Schwarzenegger made his statement, the woman initially claimed that the father of the child was the man who was her husband at the time. She said she retired from her job working for the family earlier this year because she had reached her goal of two decades on the job. “I wanted to achieve my 20 years, then I asked to retire,” she said. The family gave her a severance payment and she “left on good terms with them.”

When the paper informed her of Schwarzenegger’s admission, she declined to comment further.

Shriver, a former NBC News reporter, moved out of the couple’s home in Brentwood earlier this year, but their troubles were not widely known until the couple announced their separation in a joint statement last week.

Well...I hate to say "I told you so"...but this just broke nationally...

SCHWARZENEGGER ADMITS FATHERING CHILD WITH HOUSEHOLD STAFFER

LOS ANGELES -- Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has acknowledged that he fathered a child with a member of his household staff, a revelation that apparently prompted wife Maria Shriver to leave the couple's home before they announced their separation last week.

Schwarzenegger and Shriver jointly announced May 9 that they were splitting up after 25 years of marriage. Yet, Shriver moved out of the family's Brentwood mansion earlier in the year after Schwarzenegger acknowledged the child is his, The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

"After leaving the governor's office I told my wife about this event, which occurred over a decade ago," Schwarzenegger told the Times in a statement that also was sent to The Associated Press early Tuesday. "I understand and deserve the feelings of anger and disappointment among my friends and family. There are no excuses and I take full responsibility for the hurt I have caused. I have apologized to Maria, my children and my family. I am truly sorry.

"I ask that the media respect my wife and children through this extremely difficult time," the statement concluded. "While I deserve your attention and criticism, my family does not."

Schwarzenegger's representatives did not comment further. A spokesman for the former first lady told the Times she had no comment.

The Times did not publish the former staffer's name nor that of her child but said the woman worked for the family for 20 years and retired in January.

In an interview Monday before Schwarzenegger issued his statement, the former staffer said another man -- her husband at the time -- was the child's father. When the Times later informed the woman of the governor's statement, she declined to comment further.

The child was born before Schwarzenegger began his seven-year stint in public office.

Shriver stood by her husband during his 2003 gubernatorial campaign after the Los Angeles Times reported accusations that he had a history of groping women. Schwarzenegger later said he "behaved badly sometimes."

In his first public comments since the couple announced their breakup, Schwarzenegger said last week that he and Shriver "both love each other very much."

"We are very fortunate that we have four extraordinary children and we're taking one day at a time," he said at a Los Angeles event marking Israeli independence. Their children range in age from 13 to 21.

Since his term as California governor ended in early January, Schwarzenegger, 63, has hopscotched around the world, his wife nowhere in sight. While the "Terminator" star appeared confident about the future since exiting politics, cutting movie deals and fashioning himself as a global spokesman for green energy, Shriver, known for her confidence, seemed unsettled.

Shriver, 55, maintained her own identity when her husband entered politics, though she gave up her job at NBC. Their union was often tested in Sacramento, where the former action star contended with a rough seven years of legislative gridlock, a budget crisis and lingering questions about his fidelity.

What is hilarious is that, even though he is Ahnold, and a movie star, he is also a RETARDLICAN, and he has just fullfilled one of the requirements of being a Retardlican:

Stand up in front of everyone and claim you are all about Law and Order, Christianity, etc., and you are pure as the driven snow, and all about family, and conservative values, blah blah blah......

Then eventually either reveal on your own, or deal with the revelation by others that you are a lying sack of shit who likes to smoke crack, fuck little boys and/or at the very least cheat on your wife, and deal with the fallout as you fall from grace, your wife leaves you, political allies no longer return your calls, etc.

The second ANY politician starts spouting off about Family Values, pandering to the religious right, you can almost hearing the countdown start ticking to their own sex scandal.

It has pretty much gotten to the point that whenever anyone starts condemning something, you can rest assured that they secretly covet the hell out of it. Christ, I can't stand large breasted women.

                  True, true, Chef.

I absolutely can't stand women & their erratic, insane behaviour.

On a lighter, more serious note, note the class of The Governator as he not only takes the blame (which is only to be expected), but goes one step further & politely asks the media to focus on him & only him & to leave the rest of his family alone.

Unfortunately, that's about the same as telling a child to stop breaking shit.

Gone (long gone) are the days when journalists were actually useful & respected.

Nowadays, they manage to rank as more useless & irritating than lawyers & just a little above philosophy teachers.

Seriously, the only way to deal with the media nowadays is to beat the shit outta them.

                  Cheers! :bottle:

Before you get too excited about how classy he is I would wait and see how many women he ends up being confirmed with.

At present I think he is on 14 affairs and 6 gropes.

Nothing could have been less accurate. All week long, the convention reverberated with the chords of Reaganite conservatism: the power of liberty, the virtues of the market, the goodness of America, and the imperative of fighting tyranny. And no speech evoked the Gipper's legacy more truly than Schwarzenegger's.

"If you believe that government should be accountable to the people, not the people to the government," he said, "then you are a Republican! If you believe a person should be treated as an individual, not as a member of an interest group -- then you are a Republican! If you believe your family knows how to spend your money better than the government does -- then you are a Republican! . . . If you believe this country, not the United Nations, is the best hope of democracy in the world -- then you are a Republican! And . . . if you believe we must be fierce and relentless and terminate terrorism -- then you are a Republican!"

Whatever may divide them, on these beliefs the GOP is as one. Schwarzenegger is no ersatz Republican, he is the real McCoy. But more than that, he is a real American. His remarks last week served a partisan cause, but they were not mere political rhetoric. They were also a beautiful and moving testimonial to freedom and democracy -- a speech to remember.
