That budget surplus was the result of the unsustainable dot com explosion, but still. Bush managed to piss it away by "leading" us into at least one unnecessary war, proposing and successfully lobbying for the passage of a huge new entitlement program (prescription drugs), while simultaneously reducing taxes. And now, the Republicans want to cast themselves as the party of fiscal sanity. Indeed.

Market is in the shitter today.

Well I cashed out of the stock market years ago and invested it in real assets. I only have a couple more years left on my house before I will have it all paid off. The stock market crashed in 2008 and we threw good money at bad companies and now it's crashing again. This is not rocket science. Long-term investors left the market years ago. Only suckers and short-term speculators are left in it now. If you have a pension. Kiss it goodbye.

Obama works for the highest bidder. He put himself up for sale and the banks and corporations bought him. He doesn't seem too loyal to anyone including the people who helped get him elected. As soon as the people who bought him are done with him, they will throw him under the bus and the people who were his friends who he stabbed in the back will remember. This guy better damn well enjoy the presidency because his life is all downhill once it's over. He won't have a friend in the world and will be hated beyond belief. Once the power he so loves is gone, it will ruin him emotionally. Look at how Lyndon Johnson went to shit after he no longer had the power of the presidency.

Liberal causes isn't where the money is. Multinational corporations and banks is where the money is. Obama followed the money. He got bigger perks for himself signing a healthcare law written by the health insurance companies than real socialized medicine. What a dupe. People thought they were getting universal healthcare when they really were getting less government care and higher insurance premiums that you will be forced to pay or get fined or go to jail. It should be called Mobstercare. I can't think of anything socialized Obama has done. It's all corporate even if it was sold as a socialized program.

I think it's a bit more subtle than that. Unlike say a senator who needs to spend 6 hours a day fundraising for his next election, as the incumbent president he doesn't need to worry about it so much and your implication is that he is putting money away in a Swiss bank account or something is obviously not true and basically not necessary for a president.

I think the problem is that he is not really a leader. He is a team player type, a manager not a strategy guy. He seeks compromise and logic which particularly in the current environment means he is not successful and inevitably pulls him to the right.

Congress is the main problem though and that does go back to political funding. It's important for Democrats to remember it was their guys who were bought and owned that stopped healthcare when they had a majority in both houses.

Horseshit. There would be all kinds of money in green technology if people would pull their heads out of the oil and nuclear industries collective asses. It's embarrassing as all fucking Hell that China is converting to solar energy before the US. Not to mention that they're doing so with money made from US corporate outsourcing.

High speed trains - not exclusively a "liberal" cause, but I don't know any liberals opposed to them. Another thing the US should be leading in, but not even on the goddamned track - to make a bad pun.
