Yes, but not in the way you think....

Fortunately I live in a country with only 10% church attendance and things are improving all the time. Most countries as education improves are becoming less superstitious it's only the US which is moving in the other direction in some areas.

Did Republican candidates in the past lead mass prayers asking for rain or say that policy decisions were making god angry so that he sent storms like fucking Zeus?

      I don't think they did.

Get over yourself, and fuck pRick Perry. You'd see yourself buying into their bullshit if you own a mirror or read your own posts. "Billions"? Hardly. The idea that "traditional" marriage somehow needs to be "defended"....is just idiotic. They should have the right to be as miserable as the rest of us.

I've said it before - I want to see the divorce statistics a few years down the road if/when gay marriage becomes law. If their divorce rate is lower, the heads of the Bachmanns, Perrys, and Pat Robertsons all over the world will explode.

          It's fucking crazy.
And let's not forget, the result was the EXACT OPPOSITE of what they were praying for...hey, maybe god's into the idea of church-state separation too...

I invented the separation of church and state! Only I called it render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's..

Or maybe just maybe when they were deciding what the Jesus character did and didn't say 300 years after his death because the Emperor Constantine wanted the stability of a single church; is it just possible that it would be quite useful to stick that line in?

Constantine knew what the previous Caesars did not. And that was that they could not destroy the Church by oppressing it. So instead they merged themselves with it, and created something far different than what I and My disciples started.

Mainstream Christianity is that god took control of Constantine and his guys by sending down a ghost to make sure they chose the right books to put in the bible. Not sure how that fits with freewill but whatever.

Actually if we're honest 99.9% of mainstream Christians don't even think about stuff like this because it is too difficult.

Well, that is how Constantine explained it. But take My word for it, that's not what happened.

                        Not until 1975?

                        Really?

I'm not saying that they should have changed the law though, hell I've suffered more than most, I'm just surprised it was that late.

"No real solutions" and "non-solidifying dreams"? Maybe religion and atheism aren't so different after all.

Overall, I gotta say I agree with Sesh. If people wish to be religious, that's their choice. But, for a politician to imply that praying will solve anything is a tad ridiculous and impractical (and simply by doing it this implication is evoked).

Actually, I saw a clip of Fox News where after the recent hurricane they had a feature; "What do ATHIESTS do in a crisis?", and invited an athiest on BECAUSE he was an athiest and then proceded to judge him for being an athiest. So, this judgement on people because they are/are not religious happens on both sides (which is kinda ironic for the religious ones, because I always thought only God/Jesus was allowed to judge)

Sorry...also your point about "prayer has a long tradition in this country and others" is a bit void when you consider some of the other long held traditions in both our own countries and others which are most definitely questionable. Take stonings and witch trials for example. You couldn't excuse a politician for burning someone claiming them to be a witch and excuse it as "oh, it's just tradition" (if you take that hyperbole seriously and start arguing about how ridiculous a comparrison that is, by the by, I will be absolutely embarrassed for you).

It's like when you see the Orangemen marching along in their bowler hats in Northern Ireland.

Yes it may be their tradition but it's a fucking stupid one.

Slavery is approved in the bible and it was traditional for hundreds of years.

Tradition doesn't make something moral or good, often it's the reverse.
