I've often wondered why conservatives never contend that the government should get out of the military... it seems like it should be the next logical extension of their "all government is bad except for legislating morality" philosophy.

Sadly, I think private mercenary armies like BlacKKKwater/Xe/whatever the name is this week are a step in that fascist direction.

Affordable Care Act Upheld

The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the Affordable Care Act. Sen. Bernie Sanders welcomed the ruling. "Today is a good day for millions of Americans who have pre-existing conditions who can no longer be rejected by insurance companies. It is a good day for families with children under 26 who can keep their children on their health insurance policies. It is a good day for women who can no longer be charged far higher premiums than men.

"It is a good day for 30 million uninsured Americans who will have access to healthcare. It is a good day for seniors who will continue to see their prescription drug costs go down as the so-called doughnut hole goes away. It is a good day for small businesses who simply cannot continue to afford the escalating costs of providing insurance for their employees. It is a good day for 20 million Americans who will soon be able to find access to community health centers.

"It is an especially good day for the state of Vermont, which stands to receive hundreds of millions of dollars in additional federal funds to help our state achieve universal health care.

"In my view, while the Affordable Care Act is an important step in the right direction and I am glad that the Supreme Court upheld it, we ultimately need to do better. If we are serious about providing high-quality, affordable healthcare as a right, not a privilege, the real solution to America's health care crisis is a Medicare-for-all, single-payer system. Until then, we will remain the only major nation that does not provide health care for every man, woman and child as a right of citizenship.

"I am proud that Vermont is making steady progress toward implementing a single-payer system. I hope our state will be a model to show the rest of the nation how to provide better care at less cost to more people."

Had Obama lost, his base would be fired up & had something to fight for.

Now the opposition is fired up & ready to fight. Obama & his healthcare are as good as done in November. Mark my words. I guarantee both will be just bad memories come next spring.

If everyone was covered under a real health care system, then the only people going to the emergency room for treatment would be those with an actual emergency. As opposed to someone whose "emergency" only resulted from not being able to see a fucking doctor for years, and thus not being able to know with any accuracy that they weren't in good health.

My main problem with the afordable care act was it was secret and rammed through and signed into law without any public debate or public disclosure on what was in it. Then cocky politicians say we have to pass it to see what's in it. The Supreme Court was in the right defining the mandate as a tax. That's what it really is. The problem is the rich and the corporations will get exemptions from it. McDonald's complained to Kathleen Sebelius about how much it was going to cost them and she gave the corporation an exemption. The people on welfare will get an exemption. So the burdon will fall on what's left of the middle class. This is the biggest tax increase in US history and it's going to hit the average working class people right smack in the middle of an economic depression. It's a disaster.

What we have is welfare for the poor who stay on it for generations and welfare for the rich in the form of bailouts. The welfare for the rich costs a hell of a lot more than welfare for the poor and who gets stuck is the average tax paying working American. Of course it's the politically connected rich who want to run them out of business and take over. The affordable healthcare mandate tax seems to be a handy tool to do just that.

If we want to go the government route just set up a government subsidized insurance program that is affordable and you can choose to join it or choose not to. If the care provided and the rates are a better deal than what the private sector is gouging us with then they will have to lower their prices to compete. It would be a market driven form of regulation. The problem is we have so many crooks in Washington they would screw this up too.

This is just the begining of the fight. All the supreme court did was define the heathcare mandate as a tax and it's constitutional to charge it. The affordable healthcare act is not popular with the people because of how it was rammed through and signed into law. It's becoming more unpopular when people are seeing they will lose many choices and privacy in their healthcare. What will happen if the next presidential term continues to be a disaster no mater who wins the election is citizens in certain states will just say we are done, we are fed up. I think we will have a constitutional convention because people will see the political process is too rigged to serve them anymore. That is already in the early stages of being planned. I think people are pretty fed up with the agency government that has taken over. I really don't think most people see it all as a hopeless rigged game and voting really no longer changes much so it's time to go to plan B. Plan C will be blood but I hope it doesn't go there.
